Dear Zephyr Christian Friends and Family, I recently read something from Dallas Willard. Dallas Willard was a Christian philosopher who wrote about and emphasized living internally and externally the message of Jesus Christ. What I read was a quote of his that made me stop and consider – here is the quote: “Grace is opposed to earning, but it is never opposed to effort.” He went on to say that effort is action but earning is an attitude. Grace should compel us or motivate us to action! The Bible says that grace is freely given (free to us, not free to Christ) and that it empowers us to serve. Paul said that by the grace given him he worked hard at evangelizing others (1 Cor. 3:10; 15:10). God’s grace moves us to living lives of holiness (2 Cor. 1:12). You see, we don’t work to become the beloved. We are the beloved. There is nothing to earn -- the position of being a child of God and having the power of the Holy Spirit are ours already through union with God’s Son. Yet so often we fall into the trap of thinking we need to earn God’s favor, God’s grace, God’s pleas-ure. We live with the sense that God is continually disappointed in us, that He is looking for our faults, and that the only way we can break through to Him is by being good enough, working hard enough, serving often enough. The problem is that word “enough” – we can’t enough! I once had a large, colorful poster of two sailboats racing side-by-side in the America’s Cup. From a distance, the boats would have appeared to cut effortlessly through the still water of the bay or the choppy water of the sea. They were beautiful. But what I liked about my poster was that the picture was taken from a helicopter or a drone because it showed how hard the sailors were having to work. Many of us, myself included, have a deeply ingrained (and often unspoken) presupposition that the Christian life should be easy, like the smooth sailing ships on the sea. While we would never admit it publicly, this erroneous way of thinking is exposed when following God and continuing in spiritual disciplines gets uncomfortable. We love the idea of consistent time alone with God until we must give up an hour of sleep to do it. We love the notion of life-on-life ministry until we have to minister to a hurting soul or bear the burden of another’s mess at an inconvenient time. We love supporting worldwide missions until it cuts into our Starbucks budget or hinders us from keeping up with the Joneses. We love the idea of discipling our children until it requires hard conversations or consistency to the point of altering pref-erences and schedules. We can never do enough to earn God’s grace, His grace is freely given to us. But it is not without effect…it should compel and motivate us to work hard at expressing our love and appreciation. In Christ, Jon

FAMILY FLORIDA MINISTRIES: Thank you for your special gift of $65.09. Your support is a great encouragement to us. We pray all of you are staying safe and healthy. Our mission is to provide an environment to develop spiritual character in the youth we serve. Your continued support is making an investment in these children and we could not provide this environment without your support. Recently, several of the children in care have made decisions to accept Jesus as their Savior. Thank you for partnering with us with us to help build the spiritual character of the children we serve. Please contine to pray for our “God Sized” project - Education and Community Center. We continue to move forward with the architect to finalize drawings and with Engineers for site development. This facility will also be a tool to help provide family support programming to help families in our community. If you would like more information on this project please call our Executive Director at 813-681-1942 or email him at [email protected]. On behalf of the staff and children, thank you. In His Service, Robert Sharp LAKE AURORA CHRISTIAN CAMP: Wow! What an amazing summer! It was similar to parenting as the days were long, but the weeks flew by. God provided just the right individuals to minister and served in each week of camp. There were definitely challenges, but He always provided. Numbers aren't the complete picture, but they serve as an indicator of just the tip of the iceberg of the ripple effect into our communities. Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, service, and gifts. We were blessed to be able to finish out the season.

Upcoming Lake Aurora events: Mother/Daughter Retreat - October 8-9 - Online registration opens August 14 Father/Son Retreat - November 19-20 - Online registration opens August 30
