*Types of Sentences

* Declarative: Is a sentence that makes a statement and is punctuated by a period.

* Example: May likes to buy pink flowers for her garden.

* This sentence is declarative because it states something.

*Sentences By Purpose

* Interrogative: An interrogative sentence asks a question and it ends in a question mark.

* Example: Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?

* Interrogative sentences usually began with words like who, what ,when, where, why, how, does, do, and whose.

* Imperative: This sentence gives a command or request.

* Example: Go do your dishes.

* Exclamatory Sentence: It is a sentence that expresses sudden and strong feelings like happiness, angry, or excitement. It is punctuated by a an exclamation mark.

* Example: That was such a fun roller coaster ride!

* Simple: This sentence has only one independent clause and expresses a complete thought.

* Example: Hannah studies for her test.

*Sentence Structure

* Compound: A compound sentence has two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction, a conjunctive adverb or a semicolon.

* Examples: Sam is very smart, but he did not pass the quiz.

* Sam likes shellfish; however, Mary is allergic to shellfish.

* Sam likes shellfish; his sister likes tuna.

*Sentence Structure

* Complex: A complex sentence has an independent clause joined by one or more dependent clause. A complex sentence is joined by a relate pronoun or a subordinator.

* Words that are used to join together a complex sentence: As, although, after, who, when, which, until, because, since,

* Example: After they finished the movie, Claire and Mary went to the mall.

*Sentence Structure

* Compound Complex: A compound complex sentence has two independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.

* Example: John went to school, but James remained at home because he had a sore throat.
