    Resident parking in Visitor park-

ing areas still is a problem. Thereason Guillermo mentions this isthat a few weekends ago therewas a function at the club houseand there was no parking avail-able for those who had reservedthe clubhouse for their activity.Residents that regularly use visi-tor parking to park their extracars are not only in violation ofthe Rule(s) and Regulation(s) ofSpanish Ranch #1 MHP but arebeing very inconsiderate to theirneighbors.

Guillermo says Thanks for allthe help in the car wash areas. The trash situation at the car washareas appears to be improvingand is almost back to normal.

Guillermo would also like toremind everyone to continue tosweep and pick up the leaves infront of your home at least oncea week. The gutter area in frontof your home is your responsibil-ity. Please be considerate andpick up the leaves and not simply

sweep them down in front of yourneighbors home. Be sure to cleanup the gutter ramps at yourdriveway. Your help will insure thatour storm drains are working prop-erly and that large lakes do notform at the storm drain inlets.

Guillermo also says Thanks forall of you that are monitoring thestreet lights and reporting themto the office. Keep up the goodwork as he continues to makeSpanish Ranch a safe place towalk after dark or on those drearyand dark days.

We would like to wish all the res-idents of Spanish Ranch #1 MHP aHAPPY THANKSGIVING.

We do have so much to bethankful and that in comparisonof the rest of the world, we hereat Spanish Ranch are the topTen percent of the worlds richestpeople.

    recounting their adventures at sea.

Noting the pirates peg-leg, hook, and eye patch, thesailor asks, So, how did you end up with the peg-leg?

The pirate replies We was caught in a monster stormoff the cape and a giant wave swept me overboard. Just asthey were pullin me out, a school of sharks appeared

and one of em bit me leg off.Blimey! said the sailor. What about the hook?

Ahhhh..., mused the pirate, We were boardin a tradership, pistols blastin and swords swingin this way and that.In the fracas me hand got chopped off.

Zounds! remarked the sailor. And how came ye by theeye patch?

A seagull droppin fell into me eye, answered the pirate.

You lost your eye to a seagull dropping? the sailorasked incredulously.

Philosophy and theTalented Doggie submitted by Jeff

An optimist sees the best in the world, while a pes-simist sees only the worst.

An optimist finds the positive in the negative, anda pessimist can only find the negative in the positive.

For example, an avid duck hunter was in the marketfor a new bird dog. His search ended when he founda dog that could actually walk on water to retrievea duck. Shocked by his find, he was sure none of hisfriends would ever believe him.

He decided to try to break the news to a friendof his, a pessimist by nature, and invited him to huntwith him and his new dog.

As they waited by the shore, a flock of ducks flewby. They fired, and a duck fell. The dog responded

and jumped into the water. The dog, however, did notsink but instead walked across the water to retrievethe bird, never getting more than his paws wet.

This continued all day long; each time a duck fell, the dog walked across the surface of the water toretrieve it.

The pessimist watched carefully, saw everything, but did not say a single word.

On the drive home the hunter asked his friend,Did you notice anything unusual about my new dog?

I sure did, responded the pessimist. He cantswim.

For 24 years, the Change YourClock Change Your Battery pro-gram has urged Americans tochange smoke alarm and carbonmonoxide detector batteries whenchanging clocks back to Standard

Time each fall. Again, this fire safety campaign issponsored by the Hayward Fire department and theInternational Association of Fire Chiefs. While it mayseem like a simple and easy habit to remember, 20percent of homes in the United States do not have aworking smoke alarm. This year, the fall time changetakes place on Sunday, November 6.

The fall program has evolved over time to incor-porate the changing of carbon monoxide detec-tor batteries during the time change as well. Anearly warning can provide critical extra seconds toescape, smoke alarms double your familys chanceof getting out of a home fire alive but only if they

work: Somewhere in the nation, a home fire death

occurs approximately every three hours. The peak

time for home fire fatalities is between11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when mostpeople are asleep

Smoke alarms most often failbecause of missing, dead or discon-

nected batteries In addition to changing smoke alarm and car-bon monoxide batteries, smoke alarms should bereplaced every ten years

Smoke alarm maintenance is a simple, effec-tive way to reduce home fire deaths. Vacuum andremove any dust or spider webs along with monthlytesting

Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in ahome fire nearly in half by providing an early warningand critical extra seconds to escape

Fire deaths peak in winter months Decemberthrough February. Smoking materials (cigarettes,

cigars, pipes, etc.) and poorly installed, poorly main-tained or misused portable or area heating equip-ment are leading causes of fatal home fires. Inaddition, candle usage during power outages cancontribute to home fires

Eighty-three percent of all civilian fire-relateddeaths are a result of home fires, and on average, home fires kill 540 children ages 14 and under eachyear.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorlessgas found in combustion fumes. People and animalsthat come in contact with these fumes can be poi-soned by breathing in the gas. Symptoms of carbonmonoxide poisoning include: headache, weakness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, chest pain and confu-sion.

Hayward Fire Department encourages families totake the Change Your Clock Change Your Batterymessage one step further, by adopting the lifesavinghabit of changing carbon monoxide detector bat-teries at the same time.

Please forward this message to your friends andfamily so that they, too, can make the simple changethat could save their lives.

An earlier check to the Secretary of State for theannual information statement for $8 cleared and Judy waspaid $40 for printing of Craft Fair flyers.

Disaster Committee chair Stacia Higman attended toupdate the board on developments in the parks disas-ter arrangements. She had discussed the location ofdisaster supplies with park manager Teresa Cruz. She wasinitially told the park needed more storage space for theirequipment in the wooden outbuildings are the end of the

defunct shuffleboard courts but Teresa says now theyreutilizing an area of the small clubhouse. The outbuilding, used by the Disaster Committee on one side with mainte-nance equipment stored on the other side, are in need ofa new roof, and management hopes to get this into nextyears budget.

Park owner Rutherford, after multiple requests, finallyprovided the Emergency Preparedness Plan required bylaw of all mobilehome parks, in August. Since the copy pro-vided indicated it was adopted in 2007, Stacia has inquiredif there is a later version. Two meetings of the joint DisasterCommittee/NERT have been held, mainly informationaland intended to sign up people to be part of the DisasterCommittee. The next Emergency Preparedness meetingwill be Tuesday, November 8. Neighborhood Watch usually

has this date but their meeting has been announced forNovember 15.

The metal storage container in the back of the parksstorage area which was used for a time to store DisasterCommittee supplies was broken into the end of September. The hasp holding the padlock was cut off by personsunknown. Disaster supplies were moved some years agoto the building near the main clubhouse so only barrels ofnonpotable water and some cots were still stored there.Apparently nothing was taken. Clint Dean reported check-ing the space after the break-in to make sure that someof the homeless people often seen camping and hangingaround in the watershed on the other side of the parksboundary fence had not taken up residence.

Old BusinessCharity Drives: The collection of toiletries and personal

supplies for HaywardCAN has been going well, and willend at the end of the month. Donated items will be turnedover to the South Hayward Parish, a collection of churchesin the South Hayward area that serves as a distributionarm of the City of Haywards Community Action Network(CAN). A director of South Hayward Parish will be invitedto talk with us at a future board meeting to further explaintheir focus and aims.

Halloween: There will be no Halloween Party this yearbut as always there will be trick-or-treating by resident chil-dren and candy dispensed at the front gate for the neigh-

borhood. Relief manager Kenny will be handling the tableand is looking for help. A flyer explaining trick-or-treatingrules and intended to be clipped to the mailbox will bedistributed next week.

Craft Fair: Patty Little reported that about half the tables

have been sold. It was decided to expand the scopesomewhat to allow new items suitable for gifts to be includ-ed on tables that also have handicrafts. A flyer will go outto the community when Judy gets back.

    New Business

Regional Manager Greg OHagan has asked to speakwith the board about plans Rutherford has for the parkbut so far he hasnt been free on board meeting nights.Several dates were agreed upon to offer him for a meetingindependent of the regular meeting.

Barbara Sacks brought an appeal from the SouthHayward Parish Executive Director Betty DeForest describ-ing the serious funding cuts the organization has suffered. The current charity drive of toiletries for the homeless

and supplies for women and children in shelters is beingdonated to the South Hayward Parish which targets ourspecific area as part of HaywardCAN. Ms. DeForest will beinvited to speak to the board at a future meeting to helpus understand how this organization provides service to ourpark and community, and how we can help.

Barbara also put forward an idea for a future event thatwe could offer to the community. Dejunking with Donna,a program outlining ways to help you get rid of clutterand junk, has been presented in other communities topositive review. Nobody present could claim to have nounused, unwanted, unnecessary stuff, i.e., junk, and it wasthought this might appeal to the community at large. Wewill try to arrange this program for January 10 or February 7,2012, depending on the availability of the presenter.
