A Word or Two from your President… Hello, RTA members, summer is almost over. I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer. We have a lot to look forward to this year. We have a new President, Maria Baxley. She will be leading us into another successful year. I will be stepping down after three years as the EPLVRTA President. It has been a challenge and because of our teamwork we have experienced success. We have met our goals with all the hard work our members have provided. This year we will have a new location to store our books for our book distribution. Clint ISD Superintendent, Dr. Juan Martinez, is providing us with a portable at William David Surratt Elementary School. Thank you, Dr. Martinez and Ms. Melissa Williams. I want to thank all my officers and past officers for a job well done. Thank you EPLVRTA members for your continuous support. Without you we would not have had the successful past three years. We look forward to seeing all our members and are inviting new members to join us on a new adventure. Legislative Update Kudos to…

Raymond Jones reminded members that there has

been no cost of living adjustment for fourteen

years. He encouraged everyone to continue to

protect and improve TRS-Care health insurance

plan. It is more important than ever to understand

and to maintain our defined benefit plan.

Also, we must not forget to keep fighting for the

Windfall Elimination Provision( WEP).

Representative Kevin Brady (R-Tx) is the chairman

of the House Congressional Ways and Means

Committee and is committed to overhaul the WEP

formula to assist current retirees. Learn more

about this bill, HR711.

As retired educators and school personnel, voting

is the most important thing we can do. Members

should write to your legislators to voice your

opinions and concerns. Stay informed by reading

current information in the Inside Line and The

Voice.
