Getting inTransfer from the airport “Koltsovo”(Rus. – “Аэропорт”):

You may get to Ekaterinburg from the airport “Koltsovo” using train service, taxi or bus service.

Train service: take an express from station “Airport “Koltso-vo” to Ekaterinburg. Time: 35 minutes. Schedule in English is available at the airport’s hall. Taxi: you may find a taxi near the main entrance. The rate: 350 – 500 rubles (approximately 20$ or 15€) from the “Koltsovo” airport to any place in Ekaterinburg.Bus: To get from the airport you may also use the bus N1. It leaves from airport bus station. Ticket office is in the terminal A.

Transfer from the railway station(Vokzal, Rus. – “Вокзал”):

Metro: using the Metro you may get to downtown area in 10-15 minutes. It’s the metro station “Uralskaya” (Уральская). Public transport: the railway station square is the main stop for public buses, trolley buses and trams. If you want to go to the downtown, take: the bus N50 or N50A, the tram N32 or 23, the trolley bus N1 or 3Taxi. The taxi rate to get you from the railway station to down-town area is approximately 300-350 rubles (8$-10$ or 6-8€).

The Ekaterinburg Metro.

TransportTake a subway (or Metro, as we say in Russia) or a taxi is an ideal way to explore the city.

The Ekaterinburg Metro. If you want to see 7 fancy subway stations decorated with Ural semi-precious stones, each a masterpiece in its own way, you must go to the subway, the second shortest subway in the world. Buses, trolley (electro) buses, trams

Public transport as buses, trolley (electro) buses and trams are very popular among citizens. They are inexpensive and frequent, and you may get to near almost any place you like. Public trans-port routes cover the whole city and the nearest suburbs.

Taxi

Taxi rates are variable and depend on the distance and time. The best way is to order a taxi by phone. Your give to an opera-tor your address, your phone number and place you need to go. Please, check the fare with the operator.If you decide to take a taxi on a street, the best way for you to stop a yellow-colored car with a “taxi” sign on boards and illumi-nated sign on top. In Russia a taxi driver just stops nearby and opens a door.Cabs accept only cash. Tips for taxi drivers are not common so you decide to tip a driver or not.We strongly recommend you do not use services of privatedrivers – they may ask for a higher price and it is not safe.

Please, note:

You may buy a travel card to get around the city. The travel card – E-Card, E-Karta (“Е-Карта”, Rus.) is available in any kiosk or metro station. It costs 75 rubles (3$ or 2.5€). The fare rate is pub-lic transport is 14 rubles (50 cents or 40 Eurocents).

Historic MonumentsEkaterinburg is full of historical monuments and sites. Founded in 1723, the city still has a lot of old-time brick & wood buildings, mansions and churches.

The Church on the BloodThe world famous Church on the Blood erected in 2003 in mem-ory of Russia’s Holy Martyrs on the site of the Ipatiev House, where the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II and his family were ex-ecuted. Today it is a pilgrimage destination for many Russian Orthodox believers and a museum of the Romanov family.

Ascension HillOne of the most beautiful and picturesque places in Ekaterin-burg, the estate and park ensemble, including the famous es-tate of the Rastorguyev-Khatitonov merchant family, dates to the first half of the XIXth century. At the top of the hill there is the stone building of the Christ Ascension Church - the oldest church in Ekaterinburg - that was erected in 1792.

Monastery Ganina YamaThis monastery is dedicated to the “Romanov Passion-Bearers.” At the heart of the complex of wooden churches the remains of the last Russian Tsar’s family were thrown into a mine shaft. The Poklonniy Krest (Cross of Bows) is placed in the center of the monastery. The site also displays a cross that belonged to the Romanov dynasty and a miraculous icon in the Holy Royal Martyrs’ Temple.

DamThe Dam (so-called “Plotinka”) forms the heart of Ekaterinburg and its oldest site. Built in 1723, the dam permitted the initial development of the city’s industrial base. It is the most important and significant historical monument where holidays and festi-vals are usually held. Here you can also pay your respects to the city founders – Vasily Tatischev and Villim de Gennin.

Architectural MonumentsThe Ekaterinburg of the XVIIIth century was made of wood, fol-lowed by the first stone buildings in the early XIXth century. Most of these buildings you can see intact, in their original shape & design. The Soviet Period brought new trends to Ekaterinburg architecture - the so-called “Constructivism” style influenced much on city’s architecture.

Main Post OfficeThe most important building on the main avenue of the city, Lenina prospect, the Main Post Office is famous for its promi-nent architectural composition and design. It is one of the most interesting examples of constructivist architecture remaining in Ekaterinburg.

The Ural Federal UniversityThe Ural State Technical University is the center of the Vtuzgoro-dok urban area. The main building of the University and the building of the physical & engineering department present an example of the concept of a public building. The idea of pub-lic (or community) buildings was fundamental during the Soviet period.

Ural ArbatThe wide pedestrian avenue called Vainera is Ekaterinburg’s answer to Moscow’s Arbat Street. It is a very popular shopping street with many unique and original bronze sculptures of local citizens. A park near the “Ural Arbat” hosts an open air tourist bazaar selling local paintings, Ural stoneware, and souvenirs.

Alley of LoveThis park along the bank of the Iset River has become a favorite place among loving couples. This place is also famous for the Computer Keyboard monument that presents a vivid example of modern art in Ekaterinburg.

The Square of 1905The paved Square of the 1905 Revolution forms the symbolic central part of the city. A large statue of the Russian Revolution leader Vladimir Lenin and a Stalin-style building of the Ekater-inburg City Administration are situated here. The Square is a popular place for festivals and celebrations. In winter the square hosts an ice-sculpture competition.

Ekaterinburg ZooThe Zoo offers a collection of unique, rare and exotic animals. It houses 40 species of animals that are included in the Interna-tional Red Book and Red Book of Russia. Ekaterinburg History Museum

The museum has the unique database on city planning of Ekat-erinburg during the end of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century. The Museum of Photography “The House Of Metenkov”The only state museum of photography in Russia. The Gallery of Modern Art is an exhibition and private museum complex.
