**The second Benchmark Assessment of each Unit is required. The Benchmark Assessments for each Unit includes the following categories(with subcategories specific to each Unit): Reading Skills, Literary Analysis, Vocabulary, Spelling, and an Essay portion (optional). Unit 1’s Big Question, Introduction and Model Selections review foundational elements from the ELA content standards. *See box on upper left hand corner of Page 4 of textbook. Writing: Because this is a Fast Track Unit, writing lessons provided on this pacing guide have been shortened. The writing focus for this Unit is Narrative which is covered extensively in previous grades.
