A sentence that includes the subjunctive can be thought of as having two separate halves, which are connected by the word que. Yo recomiendo que tu hagas ejerclclo. I recommend that you exercise. Notice that the first half (Yo recomiendo) includes a verb in the regular present tense and introduces a suggestion, demand, etc. The second half (tu hagas ejerclclo) includes a verb in the subjunctive and tells what the first person wants the second person to do. Verbs in the subjunctive form may look somewhat familiar to you because they follow the same conjugation rules as the Ud./Uds. commands. To form verbs in the subjunctive, follow the rules below: 1) Put the verb in the yo form of the present indicative (regular present tense). ^ 2) Take off the -o. 3) a. For -ar verbs, add the following endings: -e, -es, -e, -emos, -eis, -en b.
