Egypt is situated in the north of Africa

The ancient Egyptians built the pyramids.

The ancient Egyptian women usually shared their husbands with 1 or 2 more women.

Children normally got married at the age of 10 or 11.

• They had many slaves

• They wore fine white linen dresses

• They went to a lot of rich feasts

• They would often run large farms when their husbands were away

• The rich women would show how rich they were by their clothing, gold and jewels.

Most of the Egyptians used live in

huts made out of dried up mud

bricks. They mostly had three or

four rooms. The wealthy

Egyptians normally had around

seventy rooms. Most houses and

huts had small windows to help

keep out the sun’s heat.

They wore very little clothing because the weather was mostly always hot. The women wore simple white linen dresses while the men wore a tied piece of cloth around the waist. Usually the boys would normally dress like their fathers and girls like their mothers.

. In the year 1922 an archaeologist

called Howard Carter discovered

Tutankhamen’s hidden tomb. Howard

carter spent 6 years searching for the

tomb.

. Tutankhamen was only eight when

he became the king of Egypt. He died

at the age 18.

. His body was left undisturbed for

3,300 years.

Step 1- Embalmers washed the dead body with oil.

Step 2- The brain was pulled out bit by bit using a long bronze hook.

Step 3- They remove the inside organs and they leave the body to dry out in a bath of natron.

Step 4- After 40 days of drying out the hole in the body would be covered with a lucky Eye.

Step 5- They wrap the body in linen bandages.

Step 6- The brain, intestines, the liver, the lungs and stomach were cut out.

Step 7- The embalmers made a mask of gold and jewels.

Step 8- The mummy was placed inside a gold and decorated coffin.

. Slaves could be sold and bought.

. They worked very hard and they wouldn’t get paid.

. Slaves were the least important people in Egypt at the time.

. Slaves were often captured during the Egyptian wars.

. They could be married and then be free.

. The women usually worked as house servants and men usually worked outside.

The Egyptians fought because men from other countries wanted the valuable things the Egyptians had. Most of the men in the army wore a skirt and sandals. Some men went on foot with shields, spears, axes and slings and some went on chariots.
