Habitat for Humanity Egypt: Dow partnered with Habitat for Humanity Egypt to build homes for underprivileged Egyptian families. The “Building a Better Future” project provided support to build and renovate houses in rural areas for families in Upper Egypt; provide clean water installations; and research and implement a pilot housing prototype using low-cost technologies. Supporting Education: Dow in Egypt collaborated with the Injaz Egypt Foundation and held several sessions aimed at educating students on how to gain employment upon leaving full-time education. Dow Egypt also works for the advancement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education by working with schools to increase student interest, participation, and achievement in science and mathematics, with a special effort geared toward underrepresented groups, such as female students and the economically marginalized. Dow hosts a delegation of young women from a local STEM high school. Dow’s agricultural advances deliver higher yields, more nutritious plants, and more effective pest control — all with a lower environmental impact. Dow Mideast Systems SAE: Located at the Tenth of Ramadan City, the facility produces fully formulated polyurethane (PU) systems that provide customized solutions across a wide range of applications including, but not limited to, thermal insulation, furniture, transportation and construction industries, flooring systems, footwear, adhesives and binders, and waterproofing. The facility includes a manufacturing production unit, quality control laboratories, technical service capabilities, and warehousing. The site has made Egyptian headlines on multiple occasions. Dow was selected to supply and wrap a 3,200-year-old Ramses II statue with its VORACOR™ rigid PU foam system, to protect the statue as it was moved from downtown Cairo to the Egyptian Museum. More recently, the facility was selected by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to test a newly designed machine aimed at finding more cost-effective, environmentally friendly PU production solutions. The results indicated the possibility of replacing the use of ozone-depleting hydrochlorofluorocarbons HCFCs as blowing agents for PU production.
