The study was conducted in Pathuria and Kalibari village under Morelganj upazilla of Bagerhat district.

Express My Research Experience

Based on production level, DoF, 2017 categorized extensive aquaculture in ponds with annual productivity less than 1.5MT/ha in Bangladesh.

The production of the current study (1428-1869kg/ha/year) was higher than extensive culture production reported by Mazid, 2002 (700 kg/ha/year).

Chughtai and Mahmood, 2012 (1198-1410 kg/ha/year) although they reported 32.5% decreased production in saline water-logged area.

How the Experience would address the problem?

• The result shows that the salinity-challenged ponds can be utilized successfully with aquaculture.

• Based on the growth and survival it can be concluded that there remains potential for extra production

• This can boost production from homestead ponds and can contribute to increased household fish consumption.

Final Words

The homestead ponds in the saline prone area can play an important role to increase fish production, income and consumption in the

context of climate change events.
