Excellent Ward Project

• The aim of the Excellent Ward project is to review all estates and facilities

• (Essentia) provided services that are received by 6 pilot Wards ensuring

that

• Clinical teams and patients receive a ‘one stop, right first time’ service.

• Includes non clinical and support services that impact on the ward and its

• efficiency

• The 6 Pilot Wards

• Elderly Care [including Stroke]

• Renal specialties.

•Develop training materials and programmes to support all staff •Pilot the one number for Essentia services across the ward environment

Excellent Ward Project

• Handy Man/Trades Person – Providing a dedicated ‘Handy Man’ service on a

fortnightly basis for non-urgent work required on Wards.

• One Stop Number – Providing a dedicated number to call for all 16 Estates and

facilities services 24/7.

• Dedicated Portering – Dedicated portering service provided during core business

hours 8am – 6pm.

• Catering – an improved Elderly Care nutritional model is being developed. This

includes an ‘Elderly Care’ grazing menu with a 24 hour service. The introduction of

Dementia awareness crockery.

• Ward Clerk Training Programme –. Service re-design for this role is seen as key in

providing a Ward based centre of excellence across both clinical and non clinical

teams. .

• Patient Transport – Full review of the patient discharge pathway which includes

capturing time savings within the patient journey from discharge to arrival home.

Excellent Ward Project

• Dedicated Wheelchairs – Based on Elderly Care Wards 9th Floor St

Thomas’ which are used by both Patients relatives and Ward teams

• Linen and Laundry Review – a full review of stock, quality and service

configuration.

• Omni-Cell/Stock Control – Stock control and service issues identified

within the Survey..

• Catering – Birthday Cakes and Fruit bowls provided in day rooms

• Waste Management – New ‘user friendly’ design bins on all pilot Wards.

• The re launch of the KIC at St Thomas’ to facilitate a more user friendly

interaction with IT.
