FOREWORD

by Jo Tyler, Event Director, European Future Energy Forum

The European Future Energy Forum in Geneva will be the seventh event in the World Future

Energy Series since the initiative was launched in association with the government of Abu

Dhabi and Masdar in 2008.

Sister event to the hugely successful World Future Energy Summit held annually in Abu Dhabi,

the European Future Energy Forum is the fi rst regional event being developed to facilitate a more

detailed exchange of knowledge between energy ministers, heads of state and international

renewable energy manufacturers, investors and service providers to ensure energy security and

sustainability throughout Europe.

We hope that you enjoy the EFEF Cleantech Exhibition and make the most of the 1-2-1 meeting

sessions sponsored by Cleantech Alps and Cleantech Switzerland. If you haven’t already

registered for conference sessions then there is still an opportunity to do so at the registration

desks. You can fi nd the full conference programme enclosed.

We sincerely hope that you enjoy the Forum and your time in Geneva if you have travelled

from out of town.

Thank you to all of our sponsors, supporters and media partners

It is dedicated to the development of the vehicle BioMobile. This

Eco-mobile was initially designed as a showcase to promote

bio-gasoline, fuel derived from vegetable waste. As a challenge,

BioMobile competes in The Shell Eco-Marathon, held annually. The

Eco-Marathon is to design vehicles registered in sustainable mobility,

consuming less fuel and emitting the least greenhouse gas emission

possible.BioMobile characteristics are the use of bio-gasoline, low

fuel consumption (834 km with 1 liter), body 100% manufactured

from plant (banana tree, linen and cellulose fi bers, pine resin), use

of a standard engine slightly modifi ed, tubular chassis covered with

composite materials, advanced optimization of aerodynamics, drastic

reduction of bearings friction, high reliability and simplicity. The gray

Clean Fizz Stand: D32PV - CSP - Glass Buildings - De-icing CleanFizz has taken on the

challenge to make the solar technologies cleaner. Cleaning sand,

dust and snow off solar panels and other surfaces is one of the most

challenging tasks facing the world today.CleanFizz has developed the

most efficient solution to address sand and snow cleaning off solar

panels, glass facades and other surfaces. This unique technology

applies electrostatic and ultrasonic waves on the surfaces to repel the

sand dust off them even when they are positioned horizontally. It also

produces heat on the surfaces of panels to melt snow in cold regions.

CleanFizz’ self-cleaning technology can be powered directly from a

PV solar panel using less than 10% of its power during a maximum

time of 30 seconds. Otherwise, an external power source such as

battery or direct from the grid is needed to power the

self-cleaning system.

Solar - a PV Management Magazine MEDIA PARTNERSOLAR - Serving the value chain of the PV industry As the PV

industry develops into a fully - fledged mass producing industry, there

is increasing industry consolidation, creating risk and an opportunity

at the same time. This development will influence the competiveness

of small and medium companies as well. To survive the price

pressure of the big companies made possible by economies of scale

that come with large production volumes, they have to specialise

in niche markets with high value added in their products, offering

technologically more advanced and cheaper solar cell concepts.

Solar Magazine provides the knowledge from technology, industry,

government across the entire photovoltaic value chain to enable

companies to create competitive advantage. Distributed globally

throughout Europe, USA and Asia with over 40,000 copies both print

and digital.

SRB Energy Stand: F32SRB Energy, created in 2005, has developed a flat plate evacuated

solar panel able to reach temperatures up to 400°C without light

focusing. This performance is possible thanks to vacuum which

strongly reduces the thermal losses of the panel. After the initial

evacuation, the vacuum is maintained in the panel by a solar powered

getter pump, dimensioned to cope with the panel outgassing during

more than 20 years. The SRB panel may be used for all the possible

solar applications, namely the production of domestic hot water,

industrial heat, district heating, refrigeration and electricity. The SRB

panel could also be used to complement fossil fuel or biomass in

hybrid/cogeneration thermal power plants, particularly in areas of non

ideal solar conditions like Central Europe, where the high percentage

of diffuse light makes the use of parabolic trough mirrors ineffective.

the Roadster, Tesla produces a vehicle that doesn’t compromise on

performance, design or efficiency. The zero-emission Roadster is the

world’s only electric supercar, it accelerates from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds

without a drop of gasoline and is the only sports car that can be fully

or partially charged with renewable energy. More than 2,000 owners

are driving Tesla Roadsters in at least 30 countries and collectively

have driven over 15 million electric kilometers. Tesla’s second car

platform, the Model S sedan, will be available in mid-2012. Model

S is the first premium sedan built from the ground up as an electric

vehicle. Tesla partnered with Daimler AG in 2007. Tesla produces

battery packs for Daimler’s electric Smart car and Mercedes A-class

E-cell. In May of 2010, Tesla announced a similar partnership with

Toyota. Tesla is designing and building the powertrain for Toyota’s

upcoming RAV4 EV. Tesla currently uses Panasonic battery cells in

its advanced battery packs and has collaborated with Panasonic on

the development of next generation battery cells designed specifically

for electric vehicles. Panasonic also joined Daimler and Toyota as an

is also building two twin plants, Valle 1 and Valle 2 with parabolic

trough technology, of 50 MW each one, located in Cadiz. Every new

Torresol Energy project will introduce and test new technologies with

Masdar and SENER’s support in order to make CSP an economically

competitive option and thus make it a real, viable, ecological and

sustainable alternative to traditional energy. In this regard, the

protection of the environment for future generations is one of Torresol

TVP Solar Stand: D24TVP Solar is a Swiss-based company which designs, develops

and markets innovative high-vacuum flat solar panels based on

patented IP. TVP’s cleantech solution is the most efficient method to

provide clean heating and cooling from solar energy. The two main

advantages of solar thermal panels are: 1 they capture diffuse light

and retain their efficiency in temperate climates, such as found in

most developed countries. 2 the high-vacuum prevents heat loss and

allows the direct flow of the thermal exchange fluid. TVP Solar has

developed a pilot manufacturing line and has signed agreements for

field test installations with high profile tier -1 partners. Medium term,

TVP Solar plans to establish high-vacuum panels as the reference

technology in the solar thermal industry and become economically

competitive with fossil fuels. This goal will be achieved by selling

solutions “business to business”, by selling through complementary

partners, OEM’s distributors and VAR’s.
