We trust this will be a great experience for you and a great opportunity for your bands to get invaluable performance feedback. We have worked hard to make this a fantastic experience for you and your students. Unfortunately, we recently lost our band director; however, the show must go on. General Housekeeping Items:

• In accordance with CDC guidelines, Nease High School recommends that students/spectators wear a

mask; however, it is not required.

• Spectator tickets must be purchased online at:

o https://gofan.co/app/events/404837?schoolId=FL17938_1

• 2021 FCMI will have an adjudication panel, including on-field judges. Please see the list of adjudicators and critique schedule in this packet.

• Only performers and staff members with FCMI badges will be permitted through the performance gate. Chaperones and spectators should enter through the main entry gate.

• Prelim retreat will be band officers only.

• Finals retreat will be full band retreat. Entry for Finals retreat will be in parade block. There will be Nease band staff and volunteers on hand to help direct your band on the track for the retreat entry. Please ensure your band is in parade block upon approach for retreat. Please see the retreat pages in this packet.

• Our concession stand will be operating as normal and following all protocols necessary to keep our patrons safe.

• Due to real estate constraints, we ask for a couple considerations:

o We would appreciate any communications for spectators to consider carpooling. We will find and manage any capacity that comes our way, but carpooling could help.

o Band bus parking will be offsite. Two nearby offsite lots have been secured. When you arrive, please unload students, staff, chaperones, and Directors at the Director’s checkin location on the Nease campus. The bus driver will be directed to one of two lots. Shuttle service will be provided to bring drivers back to the Nease campus and provided admission into the stadium. For awareness:

POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Arrival/Check-In

Upon your arrival, please check-in at the area indicated on your map. You will be greeted by a band parent and your student guides. You will receive your full director’s packet which will include: maps, schedule, director/staff badges, and wristbands (students, staff, bus drivers, and chaperones), and bus signs. Please verify your wristband count before you leave.

Student Guides

Student guides will be assigned to your group and will greet you upon arrival. They will stay with you as long as you wish. Your guides will be briefed on competition procedures and should have the answers to most of your questions. Please ask them for help with any problems that may arise. Your cooperation in working with the guides will assure a smoothly run show.

Dressing Rooms

Dressing rooms will not be available for this competition, please arrive dressed.

Water Stations

There will be various water stations available throughout the campus. Please refer to the provided map for locations.

Staff/Chaperone Wristbands

1 (one) wristband will be issued per each 10 participating band students for your chaperone passes. This does not include Band Director, Assistants, and Staff. Up to 6 staff wristbands will be provided for each band. Additional wristbands can be purchased at a discounted rate of $7 at check-in should you need more for staff or parents assisting with props. We also ask that your chaperones and band personnel wear name tags or band t-shirts so that they can be easily identified as staff members/parents.

Seating

If your band wishes to re-enter the stadium, they must be in uniform or have their wristbands on. We ask that no personal speakers be brought into the stadium. Coolers and other containers will NOT be allowed inside the stadium. Band students are permitted to bring their personal water coolers. No Pop-up tents will be allowed in the stadium. School facilities are designated as “NO SMOKING” areas by local and state legislation.

Announcements

The Timing and Penalties Judge will tell you when to position your band for the start of the show. During this time, the Announcer will introduce your band: naming Director(s), Staff, Drum Major(s), and Captain(s). If you wish to warm up, you may do so at this time facing back field. The first directed announcement will be, “Are the Judges ready?” “Drum Major(s) is your band ready?” The

Drum Major(s) must acknowledge that with a presentation of a salute of some type. (NOTE: Timing begins with the first movement or sound from the band.)

Timing and Penalties

Bands are spaced in 17 minutes intervals to allow for a smoother flow. You will receive any penalty information noted in critique. For a current list of rules please visit: www.fmbcstate.com

Adjudication

All scores and judge commentary will be made available via Competition Suite. Additional instructions will be included in the packet.

Critique

Critique will take place in the media center during preliminary awards and the schedule will be included at the end of this packet. We request that Directors and staff be courteous to all bands and do not go over assigned their times during critique. This will allow everyone the opportunity to speak with the judges. It is advised that you listen to your comments on Competition Suite before critique.

Preliminary Awards Presentation

Following the last preliminary band performance, Drum Majors and Officers will meet at the performance entrance to the field. Drum Majors and Officers will line up in reverse order according to their performance order at the band entrance gate. Then, when directed, they will proceed to the staging area for presentation of Preliminary Awards.

Finals Performance Position

The total band score in Preliminary Competition will determine positions for performance at the Championship Finals. The lowest qualifying band will perform first and each subsequent scoring band will follow with the highest scoring band performing last.

Finals Competition

The Finals Competition will be performances by the winners of Preliminary Classes 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A plus the next four highest scoring bands, regardless of class. All eight (8) bands will compete in Open Class for the Grand Championship.

Finals Awards

All finalist bands will receive awards according to their final performance placement. To ensure fairness in the case of a tie in any placement, that trophy will be held until it can be duplicated. Both trophies will then be shipped to the Directors as soon as possible. Following the second to last finalist band performance, all bands will meet at the performance entrance to the field. Bands will line up according to their performance order at the band entrance gate. Then, when directed, they will proceed to the staging area for presentation of finals awards. The highest scoring percussion from the finals performance will cadence for finals retreat.
