EE Range Introduction

To create a distinctive business environment Opticon offers both e-paper and digital signage solutions. Opticon’s wireless Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) system is based on radio architecture and e-paper labels that provide advantages in cost, power consumption, and store efficiency and production.

Our ESLs are designed to be deployed into a diverse range of industries such as retail stores, mobile shops, pharmacies, warehouses, convenience stores, and many more. The main benefits of this sort of digital signage is that information can be presented clearly, prices can be adjusted instantly, and the tags can be adapted to specific context and audiences. Opticon’s solutions aim to dramatically impact how companies operate their businesses by providing a superior platform that can improve profitability and enable new customer-facing applications, promotions and loyalty programs.

ESL OverviewOpticon’s third generation of e-paper tags boast a high contrast ratio and superior viewing angle. It is bi-stable, which means that the image will remain on the display without the use of power. Depending on individual usage, the ESL's internal batteries will last for a number of years. In order to provide a customized solution for the individual needs of a business, we offer a range of various sizes, colors and mounting options.

An underlying, yet pertinent part of our ESL solution is the mounting of our tags. We have developed specific mounting solutions for a wide variety of different shelving options. The EE-153R, EE-213R, and EE-293R mounting options can be found in the chapter: Accessories for EE-xx3 Series, P. 4,5. To facilitate our larger labels, we have universal mounting options outlined in the chapter: Accessories for EE-420R/EE-750R, P.6-8. To find more specific mounting options for our largest ESL tag, EE-750R, please go to chapter: Accessories for EE-750R P. 9,10. Although our range of mounting options covers a wide variety of display solutions, other rails and different customized mounting options can be designed and manufactured for our labels depending on the request.

The communication aspect of Opticon’s ESL solution is covered in the chapter: Base Station. The Base Station can connect to both the EE and PE ranges of ESL tags at the same time.

Opticon’s complete ESL solution is created by combining the three product offerings: tags, mounting and communications.

The second mounting solution for Opticon’s EE-xx3 line is with rail type ‘B’. This solution can be used in any scenario that uses a surface highlighted below with a ‘C’.

Accessories for the EE-xx3 SeriesOpticon has created two mounting solutions for our EE-xx3 range, which consists of the EE-153R, EE-213R, and EE-293R.

The labels can be attached to rail type ‘A’ and ‘B’ by sliding them in from the side, or by clicking them in from the front of the rail. To do this, you must insert the top of the label, then push down on the bottom until it is “clicked” in place. The removal of the labels can be done by sliding them out of the end of the rail. Accessories for the EE-420R/750R Series

The larger electronic shelf labels like the EE-420R and EE-750R require a variety of different mounting options based on their size and the environments in which they are used.

The ‘Meto/HL Bracket’ (Figure I), attaches to the back of both the EE-420R and the EE-750R specifically. This can be mounted to a variety of fixture s labeled as (Figure III) below. While the ‘Tape Fixture for HL Accessories’ (Figure II) is equipped as a single cassette connection with foam tape on the rear, it can also be used for the mounting of any of our ESL tags onto the products marked as (Figure III) below.

Wall Bracket

The Wall Bracket allows the EE-750R to be directly mounted onto a wall, creating a perfect solution for room signage.

Holder EE-750R Hanging

To create an in air display solution where the EE-750R needs to be hung, a complete set of the ‘Holder EE-750R Hanging’ is required. By combining two ‘S’ hooks, suspension hooks, end caps, and an overhead profile, the EE-750R is suspended in the air for easy installation. A complete set consists of the parts below:

Base StationThe implementation of our Base Station is the same whether deployed in a small section of a store, or into multiple stores. All ESL tags are connected to the same network and content management system, which is connected to the back-office system. One of our EBS-40 Base Stations can manage up to 2,500 ESLs and has a 25-meter (82 ft) indoor radius.

The ESL server software runs in conjunction with the Base Station and is used to provide each ESL with its own specific content. There are different types of software solutions that the ESL Server Software will support: CSV-file solution, SQL solution, CSV/SQL hybrid solution, External Content Management Solution, and a SQL API. The EBS Power Supply provides the Base Station with 6V of power when connected. You can use the EBS Ethernet cable to connect the Base Station to your existing network. A demo set of five NFC cards with Opticon Print are available that are programmable with the NFC reader.
