The science is right in our data

EDx Study Design

We’ve “racked our brains” so you don’t have to. We continue to provide the science behind the service. We’ve conducted comprehensive studies on multiple racks to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental diagnostics for detecting rodent pathogens in ventilated racks. Various racks were used in the studies including Allentown, Tecniplast, Animal Care System and Innovive. Based on the study data, we’ve designed our EDxPrime and EDxPlus services to provide customers with flexible options for developing an effective animal health monitoring program that fits your unique needs.

Mice housed 3/cage on ventilated racks

Infected mice

5-10 cages of mice infected with each of the

following organisms:

MNV

MHV

MPV

Helicobacter spp.

Pasteurella pneumotropica

Entamoeba muris

Tritrichomonas muris

Pinworms

Furmites

Uninfected mice

10 cages of uninfected mice

Animal Care Systems

Filtered: cage exhaust filter

Every 2 weeks

– Colony mice were monitored by

PCR (feces, fur swabs) to determine

if they were shedding the organisms.

– Dirty bedding transferred to sentinels

End of 12 weeks, testing included:

– Colony and sentinel Mice:

serology, PCR- feces & fur swab

– Environmental Diagnostics (EDx)

Innovive

– Colony mice were monitored by

PCR (feces, fur swabs) to determine

if they were shedding the organisms.

Similar actions as above, but includes:

– Swabs are taken at plenum junction

– Sentinels are on a separate rack

Filtered: exhaust filter from sentinel cages

Every 2 weeks

– Colony mice were monitored by

PCR (feces, fur swabs) to determine

if they were shedding the organisms.

– Dirty bedding transferred to sentinels

End of 12 weeks, testing included:

– Colony mice and sentinel mice:

serology, PCR- feces & fur swab

– Environmental Diagnostics (EDx)
