The RACE: Are We So Different? exhibit invites visitors to explore the science,
history, and modern existence of race and racism in the United States. It is
the perfect launching point for important discussions.
Back by popular demand and exclusively for schools this fall is the Flight of the Butterflies Omnitheater film, which takes students on a journey to unravel the
mystery of monarch migration.
A Beautiful Planet Omnitheater film provides viewers with an awe-inspiring look

RACE: Are We So Different? exhibit has gotten students and teachers
talking thoughtfully about a topic that has been in the headlines – and
on our minds.
Make plans to visit RACE with your students this year and explore
the biology, history, and modern existence of race and racism in
the United States. Pair your tour of the exhibit with the Race to

MYTHIC CREATURES EXHIBIT February 3–April 16, 2017 In Mythic Creatures, your students will explore the natural and cultural roots of some of the world’s most enduring mythological creatures. Omni theater
With its 90-foot domed screen and state-of-the-art sound system, the William L. McKnight-3M Omnitheater offers a one-of-a-kind movie experience. Be surrounded by incredible scenery and get pulled into the center of the breathtaking action.
Native American Exhibition Our expanded Native American Exhibition features a rich
collection of objects and stories from the peoples of the Dakota and Ojibwe nations.
RACE: Are We So Different? A source of strength and community, or the basis of
discrimination and oppression? What is race, really? Explore the science, history, and modern existence of race and racism in the United States.
Experiment Gallery Here, kids are the scientists! Control a wave tank, build a
flyer at the wind tubes, create a tornado, experiment with electricity, physics, and more.
Math Moves! In this exhibit, students will use their hands, brain, and
body to play with ratios and proportions. Together, they’ll build their math muscle.
Mississippi River Gallery Learn how the great river influences our lives, as well
as how we influence its complex ecosystem. Visit the Collectors’ Corner, where you can see thousands of natural objects – Minnesota rocks and fossils, skulls, shells, and more – that have been collected and traded by Science Museum visitors over the years.
Human Body Gallery See biology come to life! Explore what makes us human
and what keeps us alive. Here, you’ll also find the popular Egyptian mummy and discover what modern science has taught us about the life of this ancient human.
Cell Lab Don a lab coat, gloves, and goggles, and perform
experiments with real lab equipment. Computer-guided work stations will lead students through a variety of experiments exploring cellular, molecular, and microbiology. Best for grades 4-8. Hours vary.
SCIENCE LIVE THEATRE These entertaining 20-minute (or shorter) performances explore various science topics in a fun, engaging way that invites your students to get involved. Performed by the Science Museum’s troupe of professional actors, Science Live shows get fantastic reviews from audiences of all ages.

LEARNING LABS Add a 50-minute Learning Lab session such as “Dinosaur Dentists” or “Engineering: Air Dancers” to your field trip. Designed for groups of 16 to 32 students, these unique and interactive investigations expand your museum experience. Beyond the field trip: Overnight Camp-Ins Supersize your field trip with a Camp-In! Over 16 hours, campers will see an Omnitheater film, explore the exhibits, explore science stations across the museum, see a Science Live show – and then camp out in the exhibit galleries! Dinner, a late night snack, and breakfast are included. A Camp-In makes a great end-of-the-year field trip, especially for schools in greater Minnesota. School Family Nights Community-building, family time, and science learning – all in one! During School Family Nights, students, staff, and families come together to enjoy the Science Museum as a large group. Schools with half or more of their student populations qualifying for free and reduced lunch save even more on these large group experiences. Email [email protected] for more.
RESIDENCIES Introduce and reinforce new science topics In-depth residencies can be one to four days in length and create an opportunity for students to dive deeper into hands-on science. Residencies kick off with an assembly to introduce a concept, which is reinforced through additional classroom instruction. Instructors specialize in hands-on engagement. Students solve problems using scientific equipment and apply science concepts to their daily lives.

ASSEMBLIESAssemblies are a high-energy, high-impact way to introduce or review core science concepts. Designed for large groups of up to 250 students, assemblies involve students directly. Student volunteers participate in lessons with presenter-led demonstrations using props. Program content and lengths are tailored to grade level: 40 minutes for K-2, 50 minutes for grades 3-5.

EiE IMMERSION RESIDENCIES EiE Immersion Residencies take place in your classroom, requiring just six to eight hours over two weeks. Our high-quality instructors do all the planning, model effective techniques in your classroom, and offer you tips and ideas. Students enjoy having a special instructor and fun, hands-on sessions.
EiE TEACHER WORKSHOPS Increase your confidence in engineering and technology instruction in our teacher-focused workshops. Choose an EiE introduction workshop or a more in-depth, unit-specific training session.
ENGINEERING FAMILY EVENTS As a wrap-up to a residency or as a stand-alone event, you can host an Engineering Family Event at your school. Attendees will bring their inner engineer to life by experimenting with materials and designing solutions to engineering challenges.
