Seminar on Student Start-up & Innovation Policy

DIET e-Newsletter, February 2018

Sensitization seminar on Student Start-up & Innovation Policy (SSIP) was organized at the Institute for students of BE Sem. 6 & 8 on 09 Feb., 2018. The seminar was conducted by SSIP Nodal Center – Government Engineering College, Rajkot. It is worth noting that SSIP is promoted by Government of Gujarat to support innovation and start-up activities among students. The policy is in line with National policies like Start-up India which aims to encourage entrepreneurship skills among students. Experts from GEC-Rajkot introduced features of this policy and its benefits to students. They also discussed the scope of funding under this scheme, and procedure for applying at their nodal center. Around 200+ students participated in the seminar.

Industrial Visit at Redren Energy Pvt. Ltd. at Wakaner

Participants of Solar PV Installer course (Suryamitra) which is being conducted at Department of Electrical Engineering under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) visited semi-automatic solar PV module manufacturing plant of Redren Energy Pvt. Ltd. at Wakaner. The visit was organized on 19 Feb., 2018. During the visit students were able to study the production facility for manufacturing of polycrystalline silicon PV modules which are used for harvesting solar energy. Earlier in the month, on 09 Feb., 2018 students also visited solar power plant of 3.7MWp at Ramod. Here they studied functioning of various units of solar power generation system like solar panels, inverter, infrastructure arrangement, switchyard, control room etc.

Expert Lecture on Electric Vehicle - Past, Present & Future Trends

in local and global scope. He also discussed current state-of-art in the area and possible future directions. Initiatives taken by major auto industries in this direction were also discussed. Research going on in the field of battery’s life cycle and its efficiency, power converters, electric motors, etc. were also discussed. Future job opportunities in this domain was highlighted. The seminar was attended by 150+ students.

Industrial Visit of Synergy Transformer PVT. LTD.

Students of Department of Electrical Engineering Diploma Studies visited Synergy Transformers, Rajkot, on 09 Feb., 2018. Synergy Transformers are leading manufacturer of distribution transformers as well as special purpose transformers. The range of transformers manufactured by the company includes furnace transformers, power transformers, low loss transformers, dry type transformers, etc. During the visit students were able to study processes involved in

Expert lecture on Electric Vehicle - Past, Present and Future Trends was organized for the students of Diploma Electrical Engineering at the Department on 09 Feb., 2018. The lecture was conducted by Prof. Jiten Chavda from L. D. College of Engineering – Ahmedabad. During the lecture expert discussed need and benefits of electric vehicle

manufacturing of transformer and transformer testing. Students were able to relate theory with field practice. During the visit they also interacted with company personnel to gain from their field experience.

Industrial Visit at Adani & MICT Port, Mundra

Students of DE Sem. 6 of Department of Civil Engineering visited Adani and MICT (Mundra International Container Terminal) Port, Kutch on 08 Feb., 2018. Adani port is the largest private port. The port has various types of berthing structures like jetty, mooring accessories, terminal building, transit shed, storage yards, and various types of crane for loading and unloading of cargo from the ships. During the visit students were able to study various components of port and functioning of port.

One Day workshop App of Cap

Department of Electrical Engineering organized one-day workshop App of Cap on 12 Feb., 2018 for students of related branches of other Engineering Institutes. Workshop was a unique and successful attempt to introduce various types of capacitors and its use in different consumer and industrial products as well as field applications. Workshop included real time demonstrations of various types of capacitors including super capacitors, timing circuits, smoothing circuits, filter circuits, energy storage circuits, measurement circuits, tuning circuits, high voltage circuits etc. Workshop received overwhelming response with over 180+ participants from 21 Engineering Institutions of the State. Similar workshop was also arranged for students of Diploma Engineering at the campus on 09 Feb., 2018.

Industrial Visit at Singhal Power Presses and Gujarat Lathe

Students of BE Sem 6 of Department of Mechanical Engineering visited Singhal Power Presses Pvt. Ltd., Rajkot and Gujarat Lathe Mfg. Co. Pvt. Ltd, Rajkot on 02 Feb., 2018. Singhal Power Presses Pvt. Ltd. is leading manufacturer and supplier of wide range of power presses. It is 50 years old company with current manufacturing capacity of 500 machines per annum. Gujarat Lathe Mfg. Co. Pvt. Ltd. (PANTHER Lathes) is one of the finest and high-quality lathe machine manufacturers in operation since 1989. Their distinguished client list includes organizations like L&T, BHEL, HMT, Essar, Reliance, FAG, Hazira LNG, Jindal Saw, Nilkamal, Thermax, Maruti Suzuti, ISGEC, etc. During the visit students were able to study scheduling and various processes on shop floor as well as quality control. They also interacted with company employees to understand different work profiles and skill requirements.

Expert Lecture on Product Range for Industrial Automation

Expert lecture on Product Range for Industrial Automation was organized for participants of Industrial Automation Specialist Course on 23 Feb., 2018. The course is under PMKVY scheme and is offered jointly by Department of Electronics and Communication and Department of Electrical Engineering at Center for Advance Training on Industrial Automation (CAT-IA). The lecture was conducted by Mr. Kishan Patel and Mr. Bharat Ambaliya from Patson Enterprise, Rajkot. During the lecture recent developments and new product range in the field of automation were discussed. The concept of IoT and its future scopes were also discussed.

Annual SAC-Day 2018

Student Activity Centre (SAC) at the Institute celebrated SAC-Day 2018 on 10 Feb., 2018. SAC-Day is an annual festival focusing more on literature and arts. It is celebrated combinedly by various clubs running under SAC. In SAC-Day 2018 there had been 10+ competitions which included Debate, Extempore, Story building, Making best out of waste, Drawing and painting, Mehandi, etc. There has also been open stage competition viz. DIET’s Got Talent where students could present any of their skills related to singing, instrument playing, mime, music, DJ, etc. 300+ students participated with great enthusiasm in various events. There has also been bunch of fun and entertainment games like Treasure hunt, Bollywood quiz, Quick Antakshari, One minute games, Dumb charades etc. The event also included garment exhibition showcasing garments designed by student and faculty at the Institute.

Alumni Corner Institute of Diploma Studies - Alumni Meet 2018

Alumni meet 2018 for Institute of Diploma Studies was organized on 21 Feb., 2018. Around 250+ alumnae of various departments attended the meet. Several events likes dance, songs, musical performances, games etc. were organized to entertain alumni. They interacted with faculties and old friends and recollected old memories. On the occasion they shared their experiences and it proved to be a good opportunity for juniors also to interact with them and get guidance.

Mechanical Engineering - Alumni Meet 2018

Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Institute organized alumni meet on 14 Feb., 2018. This meet enabled alumni to visit the campus again after completing their graduation and to revive their memories with faculties and friends. The event included drama, musical performances, fun games and noble speeches from dignitaries. Alumni were made aware about the new developments at the Institute. A group of current students from the department performed a drama on college life and recreated the moment for all alumni. Alumni shared their memories and also their experiences after college life. Words of wisdom were passed by alumni to juniors.

1st Rank in Ultratech Sparkling Star Competition – 2018

Hardik Parmar, Jaydeep Ghava & Naitik Parasiya secured 1st Rank in Ultratech Sparkling Star Competition – 2018 organized on 27 Feb., 2018 at Marwadi University, Rajkot. Their topic was Rigid Pavement Technology wherein they covered all the recent aspects regarding design, construction and maintenance of rigid pavement.

Passed National Certificate Examination for Energy Auditor

Prof. V. B. Doshi, Department of Electrical Engineering cleared National Certification Examination for Energy Auditor held in September-2017. The examination is conducted on behalf of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India. He can thus practice as certified Energy Auditor.

Delivered Expert Lecture

Prof. Firoz Sherasiya, Department of Computer Engineering was invited for an expert lecture at Noble Group of Institutions, Junagadh on 21 – 22 Feb., 2018. He delivered lecture on Database Management for the students of Degree Engineering there. Database Management is his area of interest and possess wide teaching experience.

Modern Art presented in form of a pencil sketch on theme Utopia-The Vision which will Become Reality. Through this the artist shows his concern on environmental changes and conveys that uncontrolled development may bring plight for mankind. In his painting he tries to express nature, urbanization, melting of glaciers and a human responsible for all this. The painting was awarded first price in them based drawing competition held at the Institute during SAC-Day 2018.
