Agro-Know Data platform


Introducing the Agro-Know Data Platform

•The Agro-Know Data Platform is an open system that can aggregate data from various sources and connect with software tools that may be used for: storage, organisation, curation, enrichment, analysis, exposure & discovery of various data products.

•It is an end-to-end, modular platform taking advantage of big data technologies and open APIs to offer a variety of services to internal and external software systems.

•The Agro-Know Data Platform provides the hub around which a variety of tools and services can be setup, forming a data-powered ecosystem based on data sharing, enrichment and visualisation.


Our current Data Pools•Green Learning Network (GLN) Data Pool aggregates educational material on agricultural and biodiversity sciences, environment and sustainability;•Agricultural Bibliography Network (ABN) Data Pool aggregates scientific publications on agriculture and related domains;•Green Ideas Project (GIP) Data Pool documenting, collecting and combining problems, challenges, possible solutions and proposed actions from stakeholders in the Green Ideas events. mechanisms for continuous, dynamic update with new content from connected repositories/databases; powering discovery services, landing pages and micro-sites; management & expansion taking place by expert curators in Agro-Know team.

Museums have the opportunity to join the conversation taking place about the future of education and think beyond their collections and the physical walls of the museum.


Microsites for museums•designed, developed and deployed to help museums bring collections to the fingertips of their users by supporting discovery of items of interest from museum’s digital collections•opens museum’s collections to a worldwide audience of users •enriches museum’s collections with relevant content hosted by other museums around the world – AK Data Platform currently hosts a cultural collection of >7000 digital resources on botany, zoology, mineralogy etc.•integrated in the existing Web site of a museum or developed as a brand new and independent service•based on the Data Platform which can be adapted to work with museums’ own collection management system, as well as global infrastructures like GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility).

What is an Educational pathway? •bridging classroom and museum learning•a learning experience embedded in a context that allows the preparation of the learner before the visit and follow-up activities for the exploitation of the learning outcomes•ensuring the maximum possible proximity between the curriculum and teaching methods on the one hand, and the learning environment•integrating technology and OER in the learning process

Pathway authoring tool (PAT) •a web based tool that can be used to build complex web resources with a story like structure•can be used to model educational and researcher activities•includes a digital library of resources that authors can manage and use as a data pool to build their stories •digital library can be enriched with resources from external data sources e.g. Europeana and social sites e.g. YouTube, SlideShare•authors can create their own structure for the web resource or select from a list of predefined structures•Currently hosting >80 educational pathways for school learning and adult learning

Example of an Educational Pathway developed for the Botanical Garden in Cluj-Napoca, Romania

During the summer season the ornamental sector contains around 350 varieties of roses.

Upper primary pupils will visit the Botanical garden to study the morphological characteristics of roses.
