    Education: Cause and Effect

    Education - cause and effect

A good education lays the path for a better quality of life. There have been many studies

done, both formal and informal, that show the effects of education or lac thereof in aperson!s life.

As a nation we reali"e the importance of an education for all children, which is why we

have a public school system to offer every child an educational opportunity, regardless

of their bacground, parent!s income or any other factors. #esearch has shown that

beginning a child!s education early and well is e$tremely important because %a child that

gets off to a good start in reading rarely stumbles. Those children who fall behind tend

to stay behind for the rest of their academic lives.&' (ot only does a lac of education

hurt us for the rest of our academic lives but our lives in other ways too.

Education allows us to discover ourselves, our environment and our world) and to mae

educated choices about our future. Educated men and women have the sills,

information and self-confidence to mae better parents, worers and citi"ens. *eople

that are educated tend to have better paying +obs, be more law abiding, healthier and

educate their own children better. nderstanding the long term effects education has,

not only with an individual but with our nation and generations to come is e$tremely

important in helping us put the proper emphasi"e needed on education. Aristotle, a

famous ree philosopher, once said, %Those who educate children well are more to be

honored than they who produce them) for these only gave them life, those the art of

living well.& agree with Aristotle that the education one receives defines the difference

    in how %well& they live.

The effects of us as a nation, state, community and individually putting significant

emphasi"e on education would be a family, community and nation that would live better

    through less violence, as man

    The mportance of Education

/hat factors in society ended sectarianism in schools, and made them secular0

*robably no single movement so greatly affected colonial America as the *rotestant

#eformation. 1ost of the Europeans who came to America were *rotestants, but there

were many denominations. 2utherans from ermany and 3candinavia settled in the

middle colonies along with *uritans and *resbyterians. The #eformation was centered

upon efforts to capture the minds of men, therefore great emphasis was placed on the

written word. 4bviously schools were needed to promote the growth of each

denomination. 2uther!s doctrines made it necessary for boys and girls to learn to read

the 3criptures. /hile the schools that the colonists established in the '5th century in the

(ew England, southern and middle colonies differed from one another, each reflected a

concept of schooling that had been left behind in Europe. 1ost poor children learned

through apprenticeship and had no formal schooling at all. Those who did go to

elementary school were taught reading, writing, arithmetic, and religion. 2earning

consisted of memori"ing, which was stimulated by whipping. The first %basic te$tboo%,

that %n Adam!s fall, /e sinned all.% As in Europe, then, schools in the colonies were

strongly influenced by religion. This was particularly true of schools in the (ew England

area, which had been settled by *uritans and other English religious dissenters. The

school in colonial (ew England was not a pleasant place either, physically or

psychologically. reat emphasis was placed on the shortness of life and the torments of

    Education and =nowledge

/hat is Education0 Education is a very broad word because education can be any

environment or situation where you learn something or acquire nowledge. This paper

will discuss what education is, >or e$ample schooling, training, upbringing even trial and

error. This paper will also show that you don!t have to go to school to get educated or to

be able to do something with your life and that education never stops we are always

learning therefor we are always getting educated. 3ome of the most famous people in

history never even finished grade school. 3uch as Thomas Edison, The inventor of the

light bulb and ?enry ford the inventor of the model T car for the masses.

    >or most people, education means going to a place called school where teachers enrich

us with their wisdom but education can be a variety of thing >or e$ample, Education can

be schooling, training, upbringing or trial and error. 3chooling, s delivered through a

controlled environment. >or e$ample in a class room where you are given a boo by an

instructor and he or she teaches you what they want to teach you. /hen you!re a id

you go to school to learn to read and write. 1any people go to school to get additional

education to get a better +ob. >or e$ample someone who wants to be a nurse has to go

to school for a minimum of @ years to get a +ob in the (ursing field. A nurse has to now

how to draw blood administer an v 6intravenous drip and how to give an E=

6electrocardiogram and those things you have to go to school to learn.

Training is another form of education. Training is form of education that refers to

learning with a view toward preparing someone with a specific nowledge, sill-set, or

ability that can be directly applied immediately following completion. >or e$ample, /hen

we start a new +ob you get training to learn how to do that +ob. Another e$ample is if you

buy a boo shelf from the store when you get home you have to put it together so you r

    The *urpose of Education

The purpose of education is to spread nowledge to the younger generation. /ithout

education, tradition is lost, as well as the potential of youth. >or centuries, the old have

taught the young. They have passed the torch of nowledge from one hand to another.

/hether it was a master teaching an apprentice, or a teacher teaching a class, the

tradition of teaching has been in practice since the beginning of man. /ithout a mentor

for a child to learn from, the child will never find the truth behind the mysteries of life.

The child needs to be trained to succeed and even better, reach self-fulfillment. That iswhy the teacher must be of the highest quality. The student will tae after the teacher,

not only in nowledge, but also in style and e$ample. f the teacher has a flaw, the child

will accept that flaw as his or her own. There is a special bond between the teacher and

the student. The teacher must be prepared to tae on the student as more than a

student, but as a friend. Those, whose intelligence surpasses other!s, should be given a

challenge in every circumstance available. ?arder wor should be provided, but not

demanded. Although, those with the sills to complete such wor, should not let their

minds go to waste. They should harness their brain!s power to be as successful as

    possible.

Educationcan be thought of as the transmission of the values and accumulated knowledge of

    as oc i e t y . I n t h i s s ens e , i t i s equ i va l en t t o wha t s oc i a l s c i en t i s t s t e r msocializ

ation or enculturation.hildren!!whether conceived among "ew #uinea tribes people, the $enaissance %lorentines, or themiddle classes of &anhattan!!are born without culture.

Education is designed to guide them in learning aculture, molding their behavior in the ways of

adulthood, and directing them toward their eventual role insociety. In the most pr imi tive

cultures, there is often little formal learning, little of what one wouldordinarily callschool or classes or teachers' instead, frequently, the entire environment and all activitiesar e

    v i ewed as s choo l and c l a s s es , and many o r a l l adu l t s ac t a s t eache r s . (s

s oc i e t i e s g r owcomple), however, the quantity of knowledge to be passed on from one generation to the ne)t

becomesmore than any one person can know' and hence there must evolve more selective and

efficient means of cultural transmission. The outcome is formal education!!the school and thespecialist called the teacher.

(s society becomes ever more comple) and schools become ever more

institutionalized, educational e)perience becomes less directly related to daily life, less a matterof showing andlearning in the conte)t of the workaday world, and more abstracted from practice,

more a matter of distilling, telling, and learning things out of conte)t. This

concentrat ion of learning in aformal atmosphere allows children to learn far more of their

culture than they are able to do bymerely observing and imitating. (s society graduallyattaches more and more importance toeducation, it also tries to formulate the overall

objectives, content, organization, and strategiesof education. *iterature becomes laden with

advice on the rearing of the younger generation. Inshort, there develop philosophies and theoriesof education
