• Everyone has existing experiences / schemes

• When we acquire new experiences our current schemes are inadequate

• We have to adapt in order to achieve equilibrium

• Adaptation consists of 2 reciprocal processes– Accommodation– Assimilation

Low Interaction-Misunderstood as rude by mother and step father (Due to poor social interaction skills)-Constantly reprimanded -Mother only focus her new beau vice versa

• Parents: – Recreate previous family environment– Proactive role in engaging John– Avoid the use of physical punishment– Perspective taking– Create an inclusive environment for John– Unconditional Positive Regard

• Counsellor: – Prepare John for the possible differences /

difficulties faced in the new environment.– Provide John professional advice on coping

the differences.– Mouth piece for John to convey his thoughts

to teachers and parents
