Next month will bring the Directory of Who's Who in the Cell Biology Societies affiliated to the Federation with the publication of the new list of officers involved. Also a list of up and coming meetings gives the reader the opportunity of selecting ares of particular interest. Unfortunately many notices of meetings reach US too late to publish as we need at least six to eight weeks before they can appear in the Journal. Advance notice is given of the first Asian-Pacific Congress to be hosted by our Chinese colleagues in Shanghai in November 1990. In the same year we have the next European Cell Biology Meeting in Milan.

Readers will have noticed that the Special Plant Sciences issue in January illustrated our venture into the use of colour micrographs/diagrams. We only have a few plates budgeted for each year but can accomodate a few extra at a very reasonable cost. Colour, however, will only be used where it really adds to the information.

The Editorial Advisory Board has been extended to improve our geographical representation as well as our coverage of the different areas of a very broad science. While welcoming all the new members, I would like to thank again all those who put so much of their time in helping us to improve the quality and readership of the Federations own Journal, including those who have retired or resigned in the last year.
