Rise & Fall of the Consortium
A consortium was
proposed by the
USA, and seconded
by Qatar, Kuwait,
Libya and Canada, to
combat high oil
prices and
dominance of the
OPEC nations in oil extraction. It turned out very
controversial as OPEC member nations formed a majority in
the consortium. USA stated that it was open to more
members joining, and also that they had the will to
dissolve the consortium, as the situation required. This, to
the council at large, seemed an adamant move and a way
by which US tried to show off their supremacy. Nigeria
stood strong against the consortium, saying We are an
OPEC country and have full faith in the organization. It
came as a big blow to the US when South Africa, a close ally,
turned clueless, further denting USs support panel. India
chose to support the US-led consortium. The Indiandelegate stated, The consortiums assurances of stability of
prices, increase in supply, securing a steady trade currency
for oil, all are very rationale. However, Indias support
seemed more compelled and obvious in light of other
crucial foreign policies between the two nations, than the
consortium itself. Further irony aroused as Kuwait & Libya
voiced their support for the consortium and thus created a
stir between other OPEC nations. Libya covered up saying
that it was compelled to partner with the US due to its
food crisis. Kuwait stated controversially that OPEC has
agreed to the consortium as it tackled a very specific
problem. This obvious instability resulted in the downfall
of the consortium within hours.
Diplomatic Much?A Little Too Much.
After the General Assembly settled down today, there were
promising starts, which unfortunately were not sustained
till the end. The focus was the resolution, with which the
Assembly seemed to have reached a unanimous conclusion
that the issue of anti-government movements cannot be
dealt with at its inception and so moved on to means to
mitigate the damage done and reducing the circle it affects.
Economic sanctions and military intervention were ideas
bandied about but it still remains to be seen how these
would deal with unemployment, corruption and other
internal causes of anti-government movements.
A clear distinction was made between the UN and NATO
and the main point of contention was the latters use of
military force. The delegate of Peru strongly felt that history
should not repeat itself as in the case of Iraq and that
developing nations, no longer be puppets in the hands of
NATO and other big powers.
BUT on the sidelines
-Hungarys phone rang in the midst of proceedings. Reason- (chit to chair) it was an urgent call from Hungarian
Foreign minister advising the Delegate to urge the council to elect Hungary as the Permanent member of Security
Council.
-Delegate of China The delegate of China has not been recognized by its government
-The Chair to the delegate of china-It is derogatory to yawn at the Executive Board members face

When Tripoli Burned
Crisis struck theNon-Alignment
Movement (NAM)
soon after lunch.
The issue at hand
was the riots in
Libya. It was
informed that
rioters were armed with AK-47s and were moving towards
Tripoli. Soon the riot had spread to Tripoli and buildings
around the parliament were attacked. Strangely, the
parliament was left untouched.
After reports of riots reached NAM, most delegates were
contended by simply donning a sympathetic face and
expressing their condolences while requesting neighboring
nations to address the problem.
At such a critical point, it was to be noted that the Libyan
National Transitional Council (NTC) delegate remained
conspicuously silent about the crisis that had struck its
nation and had to be dragged into the discussion by the
Executive Board. Even then, he only ended up throwing
allegations at neighboring nations.
It was later revealed that the rioters
were loyalists of Muammar Gaddafi.
Gaddafi issued a statement saying
that, he was a peace-loving, poor
old man who had been ruling Libya
for 42 years. He went on to
compare himself to the Indian Prime
Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh and
equated the NTC to the Maoists.
Mr. Abdul Karzad, an Arabic scholar
translated the writings on the
posters by the rioters
(WaSawfYakoon al Enteqaam al
Halw) to mean there will be a beautiful and sweet revenge
soon. This would essentially mean that Gaddafi believes
that the Libyans deserved the punishment that was meted
out to them. Does he really deserve to take-over Libya?
Of Arms Trade and More
The CoD today was faced with a crisis. The main players
were the USA, the Russian Intelligence, India, China, South
Korea and North Korea.
Despite indisputable proof that the USA used Brazils
neutral status to conduct its arms trade in an undetectable
and increasingly suspicious manner, that it associated withpirates and internal terrorist groups to wreak havoc on the
diplomatic relationships between China and India, and
South Korea and North Korea, the American delegate
continued to plead ignorance.
The delegate of South Korea unwittingly remarked USA
has been one of the most trusted nations in the UN.
Whether the delegate is unaware of American actions or,
like the delegate of Iraq, been fooled (as claimed by
Belgium) remains to be seen.
The state of matters came to such an end that the
delegates, instead of trying to avert the situation, ended
up blaming each other, leading to utter confusion in the
committee, where the Indian delegate herself stated that
her countrys security measures are less than adequate
and further invited military support from all countries,
including China on the Indo-Pak border!
The activities of the US and its delegates position on the
state of affairs clearly were less than convincing for a nation
BUT on the sidelines
The Indonesian delegate authored a working paper calling
for the creation of a platform for auction of land for
investment options!
Muammar Gaddafi (when asked why he employed female
body-guards) said he like most people of his gender he
had certain fantasies.
During a motion to entertain, the delegate of Libya did a
lap-dance for the delegate of Vietnam (as a punishment for
arriving royally late)

that claims to be peace-loving.In the words of the Russian
delegate, Honorable ladies and gentlemen, this is USA for
you!
Youre Wrong, Im Right
The discussion in the Interpol moved from human rights as its focus, to whether
extraordinary rendition is to be legalized or not. While Russia strongly stood against
legalizing of extra ordinary rendition, countries like UAE and China approved of it, with
some guidelines set; like Interpol supervising the detention period of the suspect.
It was not surprising to see USA sticking to a self-formed opinion by giving unclear reasons
to justify its stance, when it kept reiterating on the fact that since no terrorist attack had
happened in USA since 9/11, extraordinary renditions were effective in every sense of it.
The delegates, however, believed in other ways to keep themselves active during the
process of going absolutely nowhere by indulging in juvenile chit talks, without actually
realizing the gravity of the entire situation.
And The Winners Are!
NAM: The Delegate With The Best Hairstyles: Egypt & Cuba (It was a tie!)
When told that they had won the council polls, the
delegates of NAM seemed to be content by just happily
thanking everyone!
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY:
The Chair managed to steal the show by
sporting the hottest shoes!

THE CONFERENCE ON DISARMEMENT: THE QUIETESET DELEGATE IN COUNCIL
When asked what she thought about the poll, she said that this would be the first time
in her entire life that someone voted HER a quiet person while usually its quite the
opposite!
The Chair of the FCC clearly does
love a mouthful!
