DAV LVAP MISSION

The DAV is dedicated to a single purpose: Empowering veterans to lead high quality lives with

respect and dignity. We accomplish this by making sure veterans and

their families can access the full range of benefits available to them;

Fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capital Hill;

Educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

Purpose and Service

The DAV Department of the Service Commission was established on June 20, 1987 to have jurisdiction and control over all service related and rehabilitative activities of the Department of Virginia.

This is accomplished through our Local Veterans Assistance Program (LVAP) which was established in 2007 to recognize our DAV and DAVA members assisting veterans and dependents in their local community every day.

LVAP volunteers receive the same incentive awards as do volunteers in the VAVS program. In Virginia LVAP volunteers also receive a state individual award for their service to

veterans.
