  • What is it?Dynamic mapsDatabase drivenTDWG standardsLinks to WMSView distribution dataIncludes map legendImage output formatNo administration!

  • Distribution MapsView by Area or PointColor coded with style optionsEasy data visualizationYou can produce maps with your own data

  • Point MappingFilter species distribution by:AltitudeAgeSizeTypeAnd TimeImages are Copyright of ATBI

  • Data OverlayAbility to view using WMS:Vegetation mapsTopographical mapsUrban area mapsWeather mapsAny shape file data imaginable

  • Point SymbolizationThese include LegendsThey are printablePNG format

  • Take the data only! The ability to download the data in JSON formatAllows the REST services to be integrated with other applicationsIf you have your own map service you can reformat the output in your own style.Allows the areas and points to be overlaid within your dynamic map system.

  • Example:TDWG Areas overlaid into an openlayers mapThis map is interactiveThe legend is overlayed and made transparentOnly the data from the rest services is usedThe Style and format is customized

  • Questions?

    -Tool for taxonomists-Distribution Maps-Point Symbolization-Spatial Analysis-Data Overlay-Connect to GBIF-Simple Data Query-And More!

-Upload Species data-CSV format-Latitude, and Longitude + a 3rd field is required(scientific name)-More than 3 fields is optional-Can be used for any location specific data analysis

Filter species distribution by:AltitudeAgeSizeTypeAnd TimeAnything is possible, if all items have a field with a unique identifier, (hair color, eating habits, social behaviors, anything!)

Ability to see species in refrence to:Vegetation mapsTopographical mapsUrban area mapsWeather mapsAny shape file data imaginable-These include Legends(Legends can be saved as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF) -They are printable-The distribution scale is dynamically generated based on content and the size of the data set.(when viewing the legend if you have 500 items in your dataset you will have a longer/larger scale to work with then if you only had 10 items in your dataset)Display point data in reference to a range of areas:TDWG Regions (Levels 1 and 2)Standard and UTM Grid zonesWWF Eco regionsView data by region density using total number of records, genus, or species. All results can be saved with legend, scale bar, and key map for publications.View your data using a WMS (Web Map Service)Google maps, Yahoo Maps, NASA Satellite images, and many more(Maps hosted by institutions and universities, maps hosted by companies that gather data (weather services, hydrological data, disaster reports, Agricultural maps) and many more)Any WMS provider can be used. The available layers and styles are shown dynamically. The MapViewer does not store any of the WMS servers settings. So if anything changes on the External WMS server you will get the latest version at all times. The map Layer information can be viewed.Sometimes a WMS has information stored about the layer you are viewing, it could be a description of the layer, notes on the time it was created, why its being used, or even just an interesting piece of information worth noting. Using the mapviewer you are able to view this data for your own further enlightenment. The WMS feature is nearing the completion of development. Currently you are able to test it out. But the results will vary.
