EdinburghAuction Oor Wullie took over the country this summer

and we are absolutely thrilled by how many people took part in Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail.

We wish to thank everyone who has been a support to us throughout this project. A huge, heartfelt thank you to our national sponsor, Arnold Clark,

and our regional partner, Walter Scott, who enabled us to get it off the ground.

It would also have been impossible to run this without the kindness and generosity of all of our sponsors, the creativity of our artists and the

participation of all the schools, nurseries and community groups.

The incredible life-changing work of the children’s hospital charities across Scotland continues, thanks to the trail and the funds it will raise.

We hope that the trail has brought plenty of laughter and happiness to the residents and tourists visiting Scotland.

On behalf of the children, young people and their families who will be better supported and comforted as a direct result of the trail, thank you.

Roslyn Neely, Chief Executive Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity

BIG congratulations to Edinburgh Children’s

Hospital Charity.

The trail has brought art, fun and smiles to our streets and public spaces this

summer and it’s something we are all immensely proud of. Now, with your generous auction bids, the nation’s

favourite cheeky chap can continue to make a real difference, helping children

in hospitals across Scotland.

We will continue our proud history of supporting and complementing the ‘Sick Kids’ with the upcoming opening of The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh. It is our privilege to continue to support over 110,000 babies, children and young people who will come to the hospital both locally and from across Scotland to access our specialist services each year. We also support children and young people’s mental health services and children’s services and community health centres across the Lothians, Borders and Fife.

We support life changing medical equipment, research and services which go beyond what the NHS provides. Improving the care environment, providing play therapy and parent accommodation are some of the ways we help children, supporting their treatment, aiding recovery and keeping families together.

The Hub is our hospital based youth work and family support service which offers children and families a welcoming, safe but non-clinical space to relax in away from the wards. The Hub also offers children and families using the hospital support networks, social activities, and complementary therapies.

Our innovative Arts Programme brings creative activities including visual art, storytelling, dance, 3D printing and music to the wards and community settings. The daily workshops provide distraction and encourage children to express themselves, have fun and make friends.

No child or young person wants to spend time in hospital but when it is necessary, ECHC provides these services so childhoods are less interrupted by illness. It is why we are delighted to work together with Glasgow Children’s

Hospital Charity and The ARCHIE Foundation, with the support of DC Thomson Media and expertise of Wild in Art, to deliver the world’s first national mass participation public art event to benefit every child attending hospital across Scotland.

Healing Touch1The design was inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, the method of piecing broken pottery back together using a lacquer mixed with gold or other precious metals. The lines of repair are not unsightly blemishes, but beautiful marks that embrace imperfection and enhance the object’s history. The meandering gold lines proudly represent the journey of the children who have spent time at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh, recognising their resilience, strength and unique experiences.

Dance in the RainDetailed silhouettes of dancing figures are painted on a wildly colourful background that evokes rainbows, sunshine and rain, as if Wullie has tipped a big bucketful of brightly coloured paints over himself. Inspired by Edinburgh’s weather, this design reminds us that life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but about learning to dance in the rain.

Legend has it that Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh was once a dragon. He flew around Edinburgh frightening locals and eating their livestock until one day he ate so much that he lay down for a sleep and never awoke. Instead he became the hill we know today.

New Town Wullie5Inspired by the fine Georgian and neo-classical architecture of Edinburgh, New Town Wullie pays tribute to Edinburgh’s excellence in design and architecture during the Scottish Enlightenment. The painting of sandstone lines combines with the iron railings to give Wullie an almost tartan looking outfit.

Artist: Edinburgh SketcherLocation: Scottish National Portrait Gallery Sponsored by:

Wullie Goes Pop6Painted in a Pop Art theme, a bold colour palette and heavy outline has been used to create a simple and fun design. Oor Wullie’s famous catch phrases are painted in a classic comic book style and a repetitive surface pattern of spots and stripes adds to the iconic design.

Artist: Donna NewmanLocation: OMNi Centre Sponsored by:

Natural HealingNatural Healing is inspired by the healing properties found in plants and the positive impact nature can have on people’s wellbeing. Wullie wears green dungarees which provide a backdrop for an array of medicinal plants such as chamomile, echinacea, calendula and lavender. His bucket is decorated with a meadow scene.
