Horror
In language arts we will be studying the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe. He is considered the “American Master of Horror” and “The Master of the Macabre.”
TasksI. You will use the research process to take notes and cite sources on the life, achievements, and works of Edgar Allan Poe.
II. You will use technology to research and create a PowerPoint presentation based on your research.
TasksYour research will include:
• Filling out a notetaking organizer
• Writing notes in your own words
• Using books, encyclopedias, and the Internet to locate information
TasksYour PowerPoint will include:
• Writing notes in your own words
•Accessing images on Google and Behold that are appropriate matches to your information
•Completing a Works Cited page in order to cite your sources (this means to show where you got your information)
The Process1. This week you are in the library for research.
2. You will work individually on your project in order to become an expert on Edgar Allan Poe.
3. To complete the research a variety of resources must be used and cited. This includes one book, one encyclopedia, and websites.
PowerPoint Requirements• You will use a template to create your
PowerPoint presentation.
• Each presentation must begin with a Title Slide. It will include your name, period, title, and an image.
• Make sure each slide has notes and an appropriate image.
• The last slide will be your Works Cited Sheet.
Works Cited Slide•You must list references (Works Cited) for each source you used.
•In order to prepare you for high school, references must be done in correct MLA format.
•This is very easy to do because you can use www.bibme.com to make a Works Cited Sheet. You must have an email address to access the website. The best part is that it is free! You will find a link to help you with this on the library webpage.
GradingYour grades will be earned in three areas:
1.Participation: staying on-task is important in order to do quality work2.Quality of notes and Works Cited Sheet3.Accuracy, creativity, and quality of PowerPoint
