● Oral Motor ●

Do you like to eat your soybeans whole with a pop & crunch in your mouth or as a dip, which feels smooth & creamy in your mouth?

● Social Studies & Health ●

Edamame (soybeans) are high in protein to keep the body strong! Edamame is a Japanese word. In Chinese, soybeans are known as maodou, which means “hairy bean.”

● Science Discovery & Math ●

How many beans did you “pop” out of the pods? Count the beans with your child, to your child’s ability: up to 5, up to 10, backwards, by 10s, 5s or 2s… This is a great sorting activity! When you are sorting talk about how the beans feel smooth but the pods feel hairy.

● Visual & Fine Motor ● “Popping” the beans out of the pods takes a little finger effort! Can you squeeze and pop them into a bowl?

● Language & Literacy ●

Word Play: Listen for the rhyming words in “Five Fat Beans”.

Five Fat Beans in a Bean pod pressed. One grew, two grew and so did all the rest. They grew and grew and did not stop, Until one day that pod went “POP!”

● Social Skills ●

Can you make your body “pop” like the soybeans or like popcorn? Here’s a fun group activity: Get a small blanket and a ball. Stretch the blanket out, each person holding one part. Place the ball in the middle and work as a team to make the ball POP into the air!

● Bloom’s Taxonomy ● (Comprehension Questions)

• Who made the edamame? • What ingredients did we use? • Why did we use a blender? • How does edamame feel? • Have you eaten anything else made of soybeans?
