THE SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
Ed Weber
Dear Parish Family,
As we expect the snow to start falling here soon, we realize it is that time
of the year when the holidays and Holy Days are just around the corner. It
seems fitting to begin this season by “Giving Thanks,” not only as tradition in this country for a good harvest, but also in the context of our Catholic
Tradition, by acknowledging all the blessings received throughout the year from Our Heavenly and Provi-
dent Father. I pray you will have a nice Thanksgiving celebration with family and friends. And I would like to take this
opportunity to THANK YOU for these 10 years’ experience as your pastor here at Holy Family. I can certainly say: Time flies! As I have said before, THANK YOU for embracing me and welcoming me into your spiritual journey as your pastor
and for showing your support and appreciation to all of us priests and deacons who serve you at Holy Family.
On behalf of Bishop Tyson, I would like also to THANK YOU for renewing your commitment to support him in his min-
istry throughout the Diocese of Yakima by giving the 1% of your income to the 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA). If
you are still praying and considering making a gift, I do hope you will be part of this effort to support our Diocesan
Church in Central Washington. I would like to invite you to embrace as OUR PARISH GOAL of 100% parishioners’ participation at Holy Family. As of today, 130 families out of 1,463 are participating. You will find envelopes at the end of
the pews.
Our faith formation programs (all levels) are underway, and we are having a wonderful year! Whenever you have the op-
portunity, I invite you to THANK our religious education teachers and directors for helping our children, youth, young
adults, and adults understand more fully our Catholic faith. I also invite you to become more involved in our faith for-
mation programs so that our children, youth, and adults know that you care and support them as they grow in faith.
Christ the Teacher, our Catholic School, is settling in and we have a lot of plans for the presence of Catholic Education
and Faith Formation on this side of the city. Thank you for your support in helping me welcome and embrace a Catholic
School on campus, and in ensuring that its future is solid. You will see a “giving wall” fundraiser in the foyer this weekend to continue to support our school. THANK YOU for your generosity! Thank you also for supporting our Faith Formation
Programs. Please buy your table for our Gala, and join us on Saturday, December 7th for a great dinner, dance and auction
to fund our programs at Holy Family.
I am always open to ways I can better serve you and our Parish Community. I encourage you to bring your ideas and con-
cerns to me. I hope together we will continue to share, grow and make our faith experiences an opportunity to meet God
in each other. May God bless you, your families and your projects.
Please continue to keep me in your prayers and know that I pray for you each day. I would like to conclude this letter with
a few words from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians; “I give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace of
God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus, that in him you were enriched in every way, with all discourse and all knowledge, as the testimony
to Christ was confirmed among you, so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus
Christ. He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, and by him you were called
to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Gratefully Greeting and Blessing you,
Rev. César Vega M.

Hymn to Jesus as the First-born of all creation.
Understanding today's Feast of Christ the King may be particularly challenging. While we may not have a direct experience of kings or royalty, we have some sense of what these mean. We know that royalty have sovereignty over their kingdom. We know that those who are subjects to royalty offer them allegiance and honor. Christ is King in a way that is different from traditional understandings of royalty. Christ's kingship extends to all places, all people, and all times. Christ manifests his kingship through his death on the Cross, in which he offers salvation to all.
Recall with your children stories that you may have read about royalty. Talk with your children about what they have learned from these stories about what it means to be a king. Talk about what they have learned from these stories about what it means to be a subject.
Tell your children that this Sunday is the last Sunday in the Church Year, and on this Sunday, we celebrate a special feast called the Feast of Christ the King. Read today's Gospel, Luke 23:35-43. Reflect together on how the various people in this Gospel respond to Jesus on the Cross. Who in this Gospel recognizes Jesus as King? (the thief) What does Jesus promise the thief as a result? (The thief will be with Jesus in paradise.)
Talk about how your family will recognize and honor Christ the King. Pray together the Lord's Prayer and ask God to help your family to act in ways that show you recognize and honor Christ as King.

Children’s Ministries: PRESCHOOL -GRADE 5
This is the last Sunday of the Church's liturgical year. Today we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. Our gospel reading is from the time when Jesus died. The soldiers challenged him to save himself if he was so powerful. They didn’t understand that what Jesus was doing was already powerful. When Jesus gave his life on the cross this allowed him to share a new life with us. When Jesus rose on the third day, he brought with him a light that will never go out, a light that he gives to us. He invites us to join him and live in his Kingdom forever. Family Questions
• We know that Jesus brought with him the seeds of his kingdom when he chose to live on this Earth.
• Where do we see the seeds of the Kingdom in our lives?
• Where are the empty spaces that need these seeds to take root and to flourish?
• How can we be servant leaders?
