ECS Scotland is a family run, independent, English language school which was founded in Edinburgh in

1995. The school is British Council accredited and we pride ourselves on offering quality English tuition to

adults from all over the world.

ECS Scotland is located in the centre of Edinburgh, within easy reach of bus stops, banks, shops, cafes, post offices, restaurants and parks. We are easily accessible by bus from all parts of the city.

Teaching takes place in an attractive Georgian house, which maintains many of

the classic features of a building from that era. The

building has been refurbished to provide a

comfortable learning environment.

A coffee and relaxation area is located on the ground floor. As an extra

opportunity to practise your speaking and listening communication skills in an informal and supportive environment.

ECS Scotland provides free tea and coffee during the morning coffee break so all

students can socialise together in a relaxed setting.

On the top floor of the school there is a self-study area with computers with internet access, extra study materials and a library with newspapers, magazines, books and DVDs to borrow.

We encourage all students to use the resources available to consolidate what is learnt in the

classroom. There is WiFi access throughout the whole building for students who wish to bring their own laptops and mobile devices to work on.

COURSES

ECS Scotland has a great team of qualified and experienced English language trainers who teach students one-to-one and in small groups. All our teachers are native English speakers.

In our Group Tuition courses we guarantee a maximum of 5 students per group.

Our small groups ensure that you maximise the opportunity you have to communicate and

express yourself in English, special focus is placed on developing listening and speaking skills.

You can start a course any Monday and study for as many weeks as you want.

General English Group Tuition Group Tuition courses have a guaranteed maximum of 5 students per group. The aim of these courses is to develop your general English speaking and listening skills through a variety of up to date discussion topics and a selection of communication exercises. General English courses are ideal for students who wish to use and expand their English skills for communicating confidently with English speaking colleagues/friends, travelling, socialising, working and for reading/watching or listening to authentic material in English with ease.

General English Group Tuition courses are available for 15 or 20 hours per week.

General English courses are available for all

levels from beginner to advanced.

Group Tuition Plus Group Tuition Plus courses combine 15 or 20 hours General English in a small group in the mornings (maximum 5 students) with 5, 10, or 15 hours of one-to-one tuition in the afternoons. The aim of these courses is to develop general English communication skills alongside more specific English language areas such as; business, medicine, law, politics, aviation, tourism, journalism, sales, marketing, politics. Other specific needs or topic areas can also be covered on request. Group Tuition Plus courses are ideal for students who have less time and need an intensive course to develop both general English communication skills and focus on their particular area of work. Specific help with email/report writing, telephoning and presenting in English are popular requests in the one-to-one part of a Group Tuition Plus course.

One-to-one tuition One-to-one courses focus 100% on your specific needs and requests. Private tuition is ideal if you have only a short amount of time to focus on a particular area of English or if you prefer to work at your own speed. Courses are available for all levels from beginner to advanced, for as many hours per week as you need.

Group Tuition Plus courses are available for 20, 25 or 30

hours per week and can start any Monday.

EXAM PREPARATION COURSES

Cambridge Exam courses are available throughout the year for students who wish to prepare for the First Certificate (FCE) or Advanced Exam (CAE). 4 and 8 week full-time (25 hours per week) and part-time (10 hours per week) courses are available. 20 or 5 hours per week IELTS Exam courses are held throughout the year. In July and August, intensive 25 hours per week courses are held for students who wish to sit the exam during the summer holidays.

ACADEMIC ENGLISH COURSES

Academic English courses are available throughout the year for students who wish to improve both their General English and Academic English language for future study in an English speaking country or at a university where the language of tuition is in English.

Summer Academic English Pre-Sessional Courses are especially for students who would like to brush up on their English skills in an academic context before starting their studies at an English speaking university in September. Pre-sessional courses are available for 4 or 8 weeks. 2012 dates: 16th July – 10th August and/or 13th August – 7th September

All Academic English courses have a maximum of 5 students per group

Weekend Refresher Courses

Weekend Refresher courses give you the opportunity to improve or ‘refresh’ your spoken English language skills whilst enjoying a weekend or long-weekend holiday in Edinburgh.

Weekend Refresher courses consist of 8 hours General English tuition,

4 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday mornings. This short course focuses on speaking and listening skills through a variety of

communication activities so you can gain confidence and fluidity in English.

The afternoons are free for you to explore the city on your own or take part in optional activities arranged by ECS Scotland.

Courses are available for pre-intermediate to advanced levels.

Weekend Refresher courses can also be arranged for a private group with a minimum of 4 students. Please contact us for a personalised quote if you wish to organise a weekend

course for your family, friends or colleagues. We will design a course especially for you, taking in to account your specific requests.

ACCOMMODATION

ECS Scotland arranges homestay accommodation in local homes for students studying at our school. Staying with a native speaker host enables you to spend as much time as possible speaking

English outside the classroom and gives you an insight in to British culture.

Homestay accommodation is located in homes all over Edinburgh, the maximum travel time is 45 minutes door-to-door from the school. It is often necessary to combine walking with a short bus ride.

Homestay options include a private bedroom with a private or shared bathroom.

Meal options: Self-catering, breakfast only or half-board (breakfast & 6 evening meals per week).

Homestay is available from the Sunday before your course until the Saturday after your course finishes. Extra nights are subject to availability.

COURSE APPLICATIONS

To make a booking for a course at ECS Scotland, please click ‘Apply’ on our website at www.ecsscotland.co.uk

Tell us which course you want to join and when you want to come to Edinburgh.

We will send you an email to confirm availability for your chosen dates and course. We will then ask you to send us a deposit of 100 GBP to confirm your course and one week homestay fee to

confirm your accommodation (if applicable). When we receive your deposit we will send you a letter of confirmation and your total invoice.

No homestay accommodation will be arranged until we receive your deposit. You will receive

details of you accommodation at least one week before your arrival.

You can pay your deposit and course by bank transfer / credit card / cash.
