Introduction Front-End crates are powered by MARATON power supplies,

located on the platform, at the back of each Front-End crate, which have to be powered on before taking data.

One MARATON power supplies consists in 4 channel, all of them must be switched on/off in parallel.

MARATON power supplies are accessible via INFDAI1 PVSS project or via the main ECS LHCb project, which allows to switch on/off all or part of the power supplies.

Definitions RCM: Remote Control Module, the electronics board

which controls remotly the MARATON power supply.

Power Rectifier: transforms 220 AC into 380 DC

How to switch on a crate from PVSS Before switching OFF a crate, ask the Shift Leader

to stop the run. Open the “Wiener Maraton Crates” status panel:

Alternative method: from the main ECS project

Open LHCb FSM tree panel: G:\online\ecs\Shortcuts311\LHCb\ECS\

In case of problems

In case of a DSS Alarm on the calo platform, power will be cut at the source (rack B1B01).

Before being able to switch on the Maratons back: DSS piquet (168000) and the run chief (161868)

have to be called to switch back on the power of the rack B1B01 (TDM Drawer)

The crate of the RCM has to be powered on manually going in the cavern

Power rectifiers have to be verified they are all ON

Page 14: ECS for Front-End crates MARATON. 2 Introduction Front-End crates are powered by MARATON power supplies, located on the platform, at the back of each.

14

In case of problems

If one crate has to stay off for a given time (changing the boards inside, problem with the boards, etc...), to prevent from accidental switch on from PVSS: Switch off manually the corresponding power

rectifier Write in the log book why Put a sticker on the power rectifier with your name

Corollary: if a rectifier is OFF, look in the logbook why before switching it ON.
