Ecosystem Approach to Sustainable Aquaculture Development
Goals
Sustainable Aquaculture Technological Platform
Scientific excellence and internationalization of the ERA in:• Aquaculture Research and
Development• R&D&i networks • Aquaculture EU Framework Aquaculture
Development under an Ecosystem Approach
• Collaboration between EU and non-EU countries
• Strengthen aquaculture development in ORs and OCTs
• Marine Smart Specialization Strategy (S3)
It has been recognized that aquaculture can contrib-ute to the overall objective of filling the gap between EU consumption and production of seafood in a way that is environmentally, socially and economically sus-tainable. In that sense it is necessary to expand aqua-culture activities in a way that creates jobs, relieves pressure on natural fish resources, contributes to food security and is profitable in order to be sustainable. The expected impacts of the EcoAqua platform are to develop the next generation of sustainable aquacul-ture research in Europe.
