NEWS

LENTEN PRAYER SERVICE Following Ash Wednesday, we will have a Prayer Service each Wednesday during Lent (February 17-March 23). This will take place the same time as the former Service of Nourishment and Healing (12:15-12:45 PM). Please join us for this time of reflection, healing and prayer.

ECON NATURE WALK Come with us on February 27th and enjoy Christian fellowship on an easy riverside walk within a Florida nature reserve carved out of a local cattle ranch. A canopy of live oaks and long leaf pines will lead us to the river’s edge for a ramble, with views of a setting sun and local wildlife. We’ll return to a campfire and share in the Glory of God under a twilight sky. In addition to your regular outdoor kit, please bring along

a chair or blanket. Meet at the Barr Street/SR 426 trailhead (about 6 miles east of FUMCO) at 4:00 PM.

LET’S GO TO THE HOP! Join us for a Sock Hop Fun-Raiser on April 2, 2016! Get out your poodle skirts and bobby socks, and plan to jitterbug around the gym to support church missions! More details to come…

GUITAR LESSONS If you would like to learn to play the guitar, contact our Contemporary Worship Leader, Mike Conrad at [email protected]. Even if you don’t read music, you can discover the secrets of the pros by learning how to play by ear! This type of skill not only improves your musical talent, but also helps you to become a better listener in general.

Our Christian love and sympathy is

extended to the family and friends of

Leon Olliff, who passed away on

January 1, 2016. Services were held in

the main Sanctuary on January 6th.

Currently, our church membership is

1,475, and we look forward to seeing the

“body of Christ” grow when our New

Members class joins the church on

February 7th.

If you are interested in joining the

church or would like to know when the

next New Members Class will be held,

please contact Charlene Davis in the

church office (407-365-3255 or

[email protected]).

Thoughts from a care receiver… “My husband had just moved into a nursing home. Suddenly, I found myself living alone after more years than I can remember and I felt overwhelmed by all of the decisions that were now facing me. Understanding what a difficult time in my life this was, a friend from church recommended that I ask for a Stephen Minister. I had no idea what a Stephen Minister was. I thought perhaps they were religious advocates, but I soon learned that their duty is to listen. My Stephen Minister was wonderful! She was interested in my life (and I hers) and we talked

about God's plan for our lives. I could say anything to her, whether I was sad or fearful. Our Stephen Minister relationship was entirely confidential. She just let me talk, held my hand when I needed it and

prayed with me. She truly helped me through an extremely challenging time. While I no longer need her as my Stephen Minister, she is a good friend and always will be!” If you or someone you know, could benefit from our one-on-one, confidential ministry, please contact one of our Stephen Leaders. Diane Bless, Karen Quick or Jim Wottring. You may also contact the church office or you may email us at [email protected].

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY from the Military Support Team! That’s what about 850 deployed soldiers will see when they open the 45 boxes of snacks, hygiene products and, of course, Valentines, packed on January 24th by 29 members of the MTS, as well as others from outside our congregation who support this ministry. Thanks to all who contributed to this effort with special thanks to the citizens of Polk County, FL, who collected donations on behalf of their local soldiers in Company F, a part of the 2

nd Battalion, 124

th Infantry

unit that we are praying for and supporting. Boxes were also packed for additional smaller units that we support. We want to, again, thank everyone who purchased poinsettias. It is through this effort that we can fund the mailings that are such a vital part of our mission. 2LT Kevin Butler, representing the 2

nd

Battalion’s Rear Detachment Command, and 1LT Rudy Sarate from Company F, and their families, joined the Military Support Team at our January 10 meeting and shared a PowerPoint presentation about the deployment of this unit. Included were pictures of the soldiers with the Christmas stockings that we sent to them. In honor of Valentine’s Day, the February 14th meeting of the Military Support Team has been cancelled. The next meeting will be on Sunday, March 13, at noon in Fellowship Hall. More information to follow.

If you would like to join us, feel free to come to a rehearsal in the Music Room behind the Main Sanctuary. Rockin’ Klokkers on a

Mission “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!” (Psalm 100:1) During the past fall/winter season, the youth music ministry had the opportunity to share God’s love both in our church and in the community. The Rockin’ Klokkers performed on several occasions for the FUMCO congregation on handbells, orff xylophones, and glockenspiels. In addition, they rang and sang for nearly 900 people who attended the 6:00 PM Christmas Eve service. The highlight of our season was being able to travel to The Tremont retirement community where the children performed a Rockin’ Klokkers Christmas Concert. Joined by FUMCO’s Methodist Men’s Quartet, who sang old-fashioned carols by a fire, the children played Christmas selections on handbells and chimes, and also performed piano and vocal solos. It was such a joy to see smiles on the residents’ faces and watch them sing along to familiar tunes. What a blessing to have these children using their musical gifts to spread the message of salvation! They are truly wonderful and inspirational. Thank you to all of them as well as their families and all who support the youth music ministry! We started our new season on Sunday, January 24th, at 4:30 with a parent meeting and bell rehearsal in the Music Room. It is not too late to join, so if you are between grades 4 and 12 and want to join the Rockin’ Klokkers, please come for some great fellowship and fun. Rehearsals will be in the Music Room on Sunday afternoons from 4:30-5:30. We have some exciting music planned and will need ringers as well as percussionists to play with the group from January through May. Contact Bethany Connell for questions or information at [email protected] or 407-399-3341 (text).

Mission Service Opportunities

for the Children’s Home Our church will be hosting a Valentine’s Day party at the Children's Home on Thursday, February 11th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Everyone is invited! As always, your help is what makes this event possible, and is very deeply appreciated! Menu will include pizza (a special treat), salad, fruit, cupcakes, and juice. After dinner, each cottage will create a Valentine wreath for their door. Favors and wreath supplies are also needed. If you are able to help in any way, please contact Margaret Morris at 407 967 9163 or [email protected]. The Heart and Home Resale Shop, in Orange City, benefits the Children's Home. Donations are always welcome, and Margaret Morris will be happy to take them for you. She would be even happier for you to come with her! Volunteers are needed to help in many ways. Notes of encouragement and birthday cards are special to the children, many of whom deeply need to know that someone else cares. These may be brought to the church office at any time. Margaret will be happy to provide more information. Thank you all so very much for your loving and generous support in so very many ways! You are terrific -- God's most special hands and feet!

FUMCO SCOUTING UPDATE

The Boy Scout’s first 2016 campout at Caverns State Park was over the weekend of the 16thof

January. What a great weekend! Watch for the annual bark mulch sale that will be kicked off at the end of January. This is an area where you can really help support our Troop.

The Cub Scouts had a Holiday Party in December with amazing food and award ceremonies. We had a fantastic turnout. Sunday, 14-Feb-16 is Scout Sunday and many of the scouts will be participating in the service at 9:30. In addition, the scouts who have earned the God & Me and God & Family Awards will be presented their awards. Please come and support our scouts! Visit us at www.troop608.com or www.oviedopack608.com.
