École Dorset School: A Tree or Three Grow in Baie d'Urfé! May was a busy month at Dorset. Our spiritual animator Mr. Randy, with the grade 3 teachers Mme. Gardois and Mrs. Harwood, organized an initiative on kindness and cooperation. It came together during a school assembly and added to our Harry Potter theme of sending kind messages (by owl and many other ways). Our younger students trained this Spring for the school board annual cross country run. However, although they were disappointed by its cancellation due to the community flooding disaster, the school rallied to collect food donations for the flood victims. This initiative was organized by the Dorset PeacePals. Kindergarten went on an excellent field trip to our local Eco-museum and it gave them a chance to experience local wildlife up close and personal. What a valuable community resource! Artwork is everywhere and samples of our students' artistic endeavours and works demonstrate the amazing inspiration by teachers and the talents of their students. Grade 6 graduation is fast approaching on June 5. Before this special year ends the grads go on a river cruise to celebrate the end of their elementary career and the beginning of their secondary education. We will miss their leadership in and contribution to the life of the school. Thanks to the Home and School, new Dorset Spirit wear is available to purchase and wear with pride. So, although grade 6 students may leave Dorset, some of that school spirit can be taken with them. On May 17 a tree planting ceremony took place on the Dorset grounds and three sturdy Canadian maple trees were planted in memory of three educators from our Dorset community. Forever remembered we think of Francine Perkal-Scott, Diana Jackson and Tanya Peris. We also raised 500$ for the fight against breast cancer on Denim Day! Merci à tous! Mme. Harwood a organisé cet événement. Submitted for Dorset School by A.Tellier
