EchoLife HG510 Home Gateway

Quick Guide

Welcome to purchase the EchoLife HG510 Home Gateway device(the

HG510 for short). With your HG510, you can access the Internet using

your high-speed ADSL connection.

This manual shows how to install your HG510.

Getting to Know

The HG510 is a kind of Internal ADSL modem for high speed internet

access. It has a 10/100Base-T Ethernet router to provide Internet

connectivity to all computers on your LAN.

Rear Panel

The rear panel provides ports for the HG510 to receive/send data and

get power supply..

Label Function

ADSL RJ-11 connector: connects the device to a phone jack using the supplied cable

On/Off Switches the device on and off

RST To reset to default settings, Hold the Reset button for more than 5 seconds and then release the button.

PWR Connects to the supplied power adapter

LAN1-4 RJ-45 connector: connects the device to your computer's Ethernet port, or to the upstream port on your LAN's hub, using the cable provided.

Front Panel

The front panel provides LED indicators to indicate the device status.

Label Color Function

ALARM Red Flashes on/off rapidly during the training mode

Flashes on/off slowly: No ADSL link

Off: The ADSL link is established and active

ADSL LINK

Green On: The ADSL link is established and active

Off: No ADSL link

ADSL ACT

Green Flashes on/off during ADSL data transfer

On: No data transfer

LAN1-4 Green On: The LAN link is established and active

PWR Green On: The device is powered on

Before Installation

The HG510 is used indoors only. Pay attention to the following when

installing and using the HG510.

Cleaning

Before cleaning the HG510, cut off the power supply.

Clean it using a piece of soft cloth. Do not use liquid or gas solution.

Power supply

• Use the power adapter delivered with the HG510.

• The voltage of the power supply shall meet the requirement of the

input voltage of the power adapter.

• In the case of thundering, unplug the power adapter;If the HG510

is not in use for a long time, unplug the power adapter.

• Do not open the cover of the HG510.

Connecting the HG510

You need to connect the device to the phone jack, the power outlet,

and your computer or network.

Follow the steps listed below to install it.

Step1 Connect the ADSL line

Method one: Plug one end of the twisted-pair ADSL cable into the

ADSL port on the rear panel of HG510 and insert the other end into the

wall socket.

Method two: You can use a separate splitter. External splitter can

divide the data and voice, then you can access the Internet and make

calls at the same time.The external splitter has three ports:

• LINE: connect to the wall jack

• PHONE: connect to the phone sets

• MODEM: connect the ADSL port of HG510

Plug one end of the twisted-pair ADSL cable into the ADSL port on the

rear panel of HG510 and insert the other end into the MODEM port of

the external splitter.

Note: Although you use the same type of cable, ADSL and

PHONE ports are not interchangeable. Do not route

the ADSL connection through the PHONE port.

Setp2 Connect the Ethernet cable

Attach one end of a provided network cable to a regular hub port and

the other to the Ethernet port on the HG510.

Step3 Attach the power adapter

Connect the AC power adapter to the PWR connector on the rear of

the device and plug in the adapter to a wall outlet or power strip.

Step4 Turn on the HG510 and power up your system

Press the power switch on the rear panel of the device to the ON

position.

Turn on and boot up your computer(s) and any LAN devices such as

hubs or switches.

FAQs

Failure Instruction

Power light is out.

• Ensure the power adapter is well connected

• Ensure the right power adapter is used

ADSL LINK light is out.

• Ensure the ADSL line is well connected

• Test with a phone to ensure the phone cable before entering the house is valid

• Check that there is no junction box before connecting HG510, which has such components like capacitors or diodes that could hinder back high frequency signals

• Ensure the router and phones are properly connected.

LAN LINK light is out

• Ensure you use the right cables from the router to your computer

• Ensure the connection is secured;Check if the NIC LED lights up;

• Ensure your NIC works normally by examining whether the item of ¡°Networking Device¡± is labeled with ¡°?¡± or ¡°!¡±. If it is, you may delete it and then click <Refresh> to reinstall.

• Otherwise you may try the NIC in another slot. As a last resort, you have to replace the NIC.

Fail to access the Internet

Take the most common access mode as an example, in which a dial-up application is installed on your computer

• Ensure that any of the problems above is not the reason

• Ensure that the dial-up application is correctly installed and set on your computer

• Ensure that you have entered the right user name and password

• Ensure ¡°Use Proxy Server¡± is set properly for IE, if the problem still remains even after you have logged into successfully

• Try to access more than one Web sites, in case of some Web server’s being in failure
