Precision Agriculture and Technology
•About 60% of growers in Western Canada use Precision Agriculture•Precision Agriculture’s definition ranges from using GPS yield mapping, boom controls, auto steer…to precision application of inputs• About 12% use Variable Rate Technology today and it is expected to grow to over 30% in next 5 years.•Precision Farming is still in the early adoption phase
Precision Agriculture and Technology
•Cost of equipment and services is still a barrier•Understanding what the equipment can provide in terms of data and how to process it is still a challenge• Operation of the monitors and equipment still causes some concern within Western Canada•Within 5 years, 75% of farms will be yield mapping and over 50% will be using satellite imagery, GPS soil sampling, variable rate fertilizer application and field scouting
