Description
GEFEG provides an important basis for electronic data exchange in the automotive industry by providing the eBusiness standards used worldwide. As a member of various international standardization organizations, GEFEG is also actively involved in the standardization of electronic business messages. GEFEG also participates in international projects, such as the JAI projects, or organizes training courses in XML Schema development and data modeling together with the VDA.

Description
Initiated by the European Automotive Association Odette, a joint project group started to develop a common EDI implementation guideline of the invoice for global use in the automotive industry. The Global Invoice as it was called was the first project where the Automotive Associations AIAG for America, JAMA/JAPIA for Japan and Odette for Europe took a joint effort for such a worldwide standardization. The resulting Global Invoice was approved

by the Automotive Associations in the summer of 2002. Ford and Volvo have already introduced the Global Invoice in their corporations. More messages followed. GEFEG has been actively supporting the Joint Automotive Industry project right from its beginning in spring 2000. The development of the Global invoice was backed by the new methodical approach of UML modeling. GEFEG contributed their know-how on process- and data modeling, the standardization of data interchange structures and resulting implementation guidelines for the automotive industry. In the meantime the cooperation of AIAG, JAMA/JAPIA and Odette and their joint project work has been further extended. GEFEG is still contributing their expertise in the development of Messages and Implementation Guidelines to these global projects. In November 2005 the Automotive associations AIAG, JAMA/JAPIA and Odette signed a memorandum of understanding about developing a global Joint Automotive Data Model (JADM). JADM will include consistent business vocabularies specialized for the worldwide automotive supply chain and corresponding business standards. The Joint Automotive Data Model is available with the Automotive Module for GEFEG.FX. Odette had started to design messages for the European automotive industry, before an internationally agreed standard, such as EDIFACT, was finalized. These Odette Messages are based on the ISO 9735 syntax and have been in use since 1986. Odette stands for "Organization for Data Exchange by Tele Transmission in Europe". Members of the organization are the national automobile associations of Europe, so that the association represents the interests of the European automobile industry.

Description
In the past, the German Automotive Industry Association (Verband der Automobilindustrie) has issued a number of recommendations for the electronic interchange of industry-specific business data. These recommendations are widely used by manufacturers and suppliers in the German automotive industry. These message types are fixed-format data structures with records identified by numeric tags. The specification is mostly in German. The recommendations are available as a data module for GEFEG.FX. They can be used both in documenting existing implementations and in developing guidelines for mapping and migration to other EDI-standards. In order to meet the growing demand for international electronic commerce standards in this industry, VDA today is lending its support to the development of EDIFACT-compliant message types by the ODETTE organization. The VDA recommendation 4938 was published in version 1.0 in April 2010 by the VDA. The new recommendation deals with the paperless, standardized exchange of billing data based on EDIFACT D.07A and Global INVOIC. The new VDA recommendation replaces the recommendations VDA 4932 - Odette INVOICE and VDA 4906 - Datenfernübertragung von Rechnungen.
