EAT HEALTHY Most seniors tend to go back to their old, bad eating habits

after a stroke or a heart condition. It is hard to convince them that the risk of another attack or stroke has increased, now that they’ve suffered one. However, the elderly with a heart condition or stroke need to be careful about their diets if they want to avoid a recurrence.

REDUCE SALT Diseases like high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart

conditions are related to the intake of salt. Reducing the amount of salt in your diet or completely omitting it can prevent heart attacks and strokes. There are many alternatives to table salt like potassium chloride available in the market which can be a great substitute without the risk factor.

GO GREEN- EAT VEGETABLES

Since our childhood, we are told to eat our greens. This advice is most appropriate for every age, especially in the senior years. Vegetables are a healthy substitute to any other snacks. Including vegetables in meals as they have fewer calories and low-fat levels. They reduce the risk of cardiovascular events or cardiovascular disease. Fresh and clean vegetables should be cut and kept in the refrigerator so that they can be available at snack time. Include vegetables in the daily diet of the elderly. Recipes that use less oil, like vegetable stir-fry should be a part of your loved one’s diet.

INTAKE OF HONEY AND CINNAMON Honey and cinnamon have properties which can greatly

reduce the risk of heart-attack or stroke. Honey has many other healing properties and it can prevent a heat-attack as well. A small dosage of both cinnamon and honey can help your elderly loved one improve blood flow, help lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol levels, and improve circulation. However, you need to remember that excess of anything is harmful. Only small amounts of honey and cinnamon should be taken to avoid obesity and other health problems.

providing post-stroke care to a senior, it is of utmost importance that milk should be a part of your diet. Healthy bones and teeth are not the only advantages of milk; it reduces the chances of a stroke or a heart-attack as well. Consuming a glass of milk every day greatly reduces the chances of a stroke or heart attack. Drinking milk also lowers the chances of colon cancer, diabetes, and formation of blood clots.
