Ihad the pleasure of speaking with Marc Legue, ownerof Furniture Village, and I can tell you he is no strangerto the business world. I might say, “It is in his blood.” Hewas working for his Mom, Annette Piche and her husbandGerry from the tender age of 12 years old, in their business of Gerard’s Furniture. By the age of 18, Marcowned a trailer business, sold furniture, sold cars, starteda used furniture business on 4th and Cumberland and learned how to fix appliances. He was so young, he had toget a t-shirt saying, “I am the boss” because people kept asking for his dad. Some of these things he enjoyed, somehe didn’t. It was getting hard to find good used furniture,so, he decided to add new “Ashley” furniture to his store.This made his Uncle Dalton interested in trying retirementagain from his many stores and refinishing factory. Hisstore, in the Cornwall Square , was what he offered toMarc. He considered the decision with his wife Laurie, andFurniture Village was born.

Marc decided to expand the business to carry more ofthe furniture his customer’s were asking for. This ledhim to reconfiguring the building he owned on MarleauAvenue for his own use after a long period of renting it.July quickly turned in to October and the Furniture Village on Marleau was ready. He then needed ware-house space so he considered the options and decided to

buy Centertown Warehouse Storage. He has found thisto be a positive experience. Marc carries about 6000skews of furniture. He deals with many furniture companies and gift lines. His furniture company can accommodate any budget.

The nicest thing about Marc and Laurie is their smalltown family values. Marc is from a large family; his dad(Bill Legue) is one of 19 children. He has learned aboutworking hard, he cares about the customers, how the

furniture fits their home, and is happy if they are simplybrowsing his stores. Marc is pleased to find a way tomake the customer happy with after sale service. Justlike his slogan says, “ We want to earn your businessbefore and after the sale” he has a lot of repeat businessbecause of this. He says, “Just be honest about whathappened to the furniture, and I can usually find the correct person to fix it.”

Marc and Laurie are passing on good work ethics totheir two children, they both work at the business and athome. The children have helped with the renovation ofthe Marleau store, Jace, age 14, is an expert at buildingfurniture, Savanna, age 13, also recently went to a tradeshow with Dad. Savanna loves horses and plays competitive soccer and Jace plays hockey. At home, thetwo are expected to chop and haul wood for the fireplace, without pay. When asked how she liked cutting the wood, Savanna replied, “That’s just what wedo to contribute to the house.” Marc is excited about thefuture. He enjoys going to work each day. He might expand, he might buy another business. He is definitelypleased with the facelift Cornwall has received the lastfew years. “Cornwall is on the verge of an explosion!”The growth with the new stores is positive.
