Timeline
1831- First Female Prisoner1836- Original penitentiary built.
Cost= $780,000- One of the most expensive buildings during the time period.
1958- Eastern State Penitentiary becomes historic property.
1965- Becomes a National Historic Landmark.
1970- Eastern State Penitentiary closes.
