This year’s planner will be distributed to all freshman and transfer students at orientation. Additionally it will be available through the area bookstores, various campus departments, and classrooms when the fall term begins.
The student planner is an excellent opportunity to be in the eyes of new students on campus and to reconnect with the current student body. By advertising in the student
planner you will insure your company/organization will be in the students’ hands for the ENTIRE YEAR. Reserve your spot today! Space is limited.

Ypsilanti has a reputation among college students as being a small town filled with nothing but crimes and raggedy apart-ments. Apparently they have not ventured to Depot Town.
Depot Town is a part of Ypsi-lanti’s historic district that spans from East Cross Street to a small area on the 300-Block of North River Street. Within that area there are restaurants, a trendy store along with a few vintage stores, a nice park with beautiful scenery, a farmers’ market and a tattoo parlor.
A person could never go
hungry with Sidetrack Bar & Grill, Aubree’s Pizzeria & Grill, Sticks, Harvest Kitchen and many more. These restaurants serve delicious barbeque, deep-dish pizza with flavorful crusts and sweet potato soup that is to die for.
The shopping selection is small but there are hidden jew-els in every store. Materials Unlimited is a store full of jew-els and antiques. This store is best known for selling antiques and has three floors of every-thing from silly little trinkets to items that could be worth a lot of money. If antiques aren’t your thing then check out Mix. Unlike Materials Unlimited, Mix is all
about fashion. This store sells new and gently used clothes that can appeal to any style.
If you’re not in the mood for food and fashion consider taking in the scenery at Riverside Park. Riverside Park has a mahogany colored wooden bridge with clear water that flows underneath that connects to Frog Island Park. Within this park are beau-tiful sights of trees, blossoming flowers and friendly people and the occasional homeless guy with funny jokes.
If you’re a person like me who enjoys cooking with fresh vegetables or you’re trying to go green – literally –

The cost of attending a four-year college has gone up by 54 percent in the last seven years, according the Fed-eral Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Even at schools like Eastern Michigan Uni-versity, which is more affordable than most, the cost of going to college has gone up three times the Consumer Price Index. Despite the costs, a college de-gree has never been more needed than it is today. The problem is paying for it.
The amount of debt American col-lege graduates owe has gone from half a trillion dollars in 2007 to over a tril-lion in just seven years. The median debt as of 2012 was $14,100. Now that the amount of debt America owes in student loan debt exceeds both its mort-gage debt and auto loan debt, the word
“bankruptcy” comes to mind. While no one ever wants to declare
bankruptcy, for the 37.5 million Amer-ican college graduates still paying off student loan debt, bankruptcy may sound like a tempting way out. It is not an option however, as student loan debt cannot be discharged in federal bank-ruptcy court.
Amy Balzer-Pemberton, an EMU alumni who graduated in 1996, started a jewelry making business and worked at Snow Health Center to pay for her education. She had to take out loans when her parents moved out of state.
“Part of it was that I came from a family that was great with money, but they didn’t talk about it and teach me how to deal with it,” Balzer-Pemberton said.
Balzer-Pemberton’s husband, Bill Pemberton, worked at a call center for
the first few years of his time at Cen-tral Michigan University. He left with unpaid loans and no degree. Pemberton
worked full time, like many students, taking only a few classes at a time.
