PRINCIPAL Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome back to the second half of our school year. It is once again a time for our great teaching staff to provide educational programs to meet your child’s needs, as well as many other extra events on our calendar that provide many experiences for all of our children at Eastern Creek PS.
Our Athletics carnival will be held tomorrow and it’d great to see as many families as possible to enjoy the day’s events.
Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to look like and
celebrating it for everything that it is
Please join us on Thursday 8 August to celebrate Education Week. Classrooms will be open from 10.15-11.15am for you to visit. A picnic lunch will be held afterwards where our enthusiastic Year 6 students will be holding a ‘Roaming Cake Stall’, selling cakes and slices for a donation. They will also stand out in their Black and White clothing.
‘Every Student, Every Voice’ is this year’s theme. The school has received a large amount of amazing donations from a retired Assistant Principal from the local area. Her name is Mrs Leonie Day and during the past 6 months most generously made donations to our school to be sold as a fundraiser. All money raised will be used for our wonderful children.
There are lots of different items including, toys, glassware, decorative items and much more. All items are generously priced, most being sold for a gold coin donation.
The stall will be held on our OPEN DAY 8 August inside the new demountable- next to the canteen.
During Education Week, our Djembe drumming and Senior Dance Sport groups will be performing at Mt Druitt Westfields on Monday 5 August. If you are in the area, please drop by to see our wonderful and talented children perform.
If you are considering using the YMCA Before and After Care service in our school hall, please come and have a look. The friendly staff are happy to show you around and answer any questions you may have.
Expressions of Interest for our Preschool are now being taken for the 2020 school year. Could you please see the office for an enrolment form. Children need to be turning 4 by July 31 2020.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
During primary school children go through many stages of making friends and along the way will experience conflict at some stage. It is very normal for
children to experience conflict from time to time as this a way of children discovering what works with friends and what doesn’t – put simply children are
developing their social and emotional skills. Some children may get confused when they have a disagreement or conflict with another person and may call this
bullying. There is a great difference between conflict and bullying and here is a simple way to differentiate between them:
Misunderstanding – usually problems around communication.
Disagreement – do not agree on something and both want their own way.
Conflict – people usually want to solve the problem. Can be over a period of time if not sorted properly.
Bullying – threatening, repetitive, targeted, deliberating wanting to harm, abusive, no attempt to resolve issue.
Relationship Conflict
If your child does experience conflict, this is a wonderful teaching moment to guide
them and help them learn about how to get along with others. Sometimes children
can resolve conflict themselves, particularly as they grow into the upper years of
primary, but when they are young they may need guidance, and most importantly
emotional support.
The best way to give emotional support is to use ‘reflective listening’. When we
practice this type of listening, we listen to the content of what your child is saying
and listen for the emotion and then we reflect back what they are saying e.g. “it
sounds as though that really frustrated you when you did not get to play your
game”. We can then try to help them problem solve the situation by giving them
lots of opportunities to brain storm a solution without stepping in too early to solve
it for them.
Conflict teaches kids:
How to give and take How to come to an agreement
How to compromise How to solve problems
To build empathy To understand others and their needs
How to get along in a group How to develop successful, loving and
healthy relationships as adults.

Parent and Teacher Interviews
29th/30th July 2019 Home-school relationships are very important. Parent participation and feedback indicate that the close connections we have established are highly valued. We deeply appreciate the caring support our parent community gives to the students and staff. While teachers are central to our students’ education, they are but one part of the team with parents encouraged, at all times, to communicate with teachers and school management on issues that are of interest or concern to them. Parents are welcome to discuss their child’s progress at any time that is convenient to both staff and parent.
Education Week
