Eastern box turtle

Habitat
• They live in wooded area to moist forest area with plenty of underbrush or near shallow water and at the edge of ponds.
FoodBox turtles are carnivores. Adults are
herbivorous but they do not eat leaves. Baby box turtles need more protein. Box turtles eat plants.
Physical Appearance
Adult box turtles had two hinges. Male have red eyes and longer thicker tails and lower shells that are flat.
BehaviorBox turtles are active during the day.
Sometimes after it rains it feels threatened. Their are two types of box turtles.
Adaptation
• The shell protects its soft organs. They close themselves completely inside. They close their head and limbs inside their shell for added protection. To make extra room they exhale air out of their lungs.
Fun Facts
• When they try to make extra room they exhale air out of their lungs which makes a hissing sound.
