Confirmation Day, today, 4 th April, was a very special occasion, when 187 pupils, from all the schools in the parish, received the sacrament. No stone was left unturned and the boys and girls were amazing! As part of their preparation for Confirmation, the girls completed the “Be My Witness Pro- gramme”. They really enjoyed it and I would like to thank especially those parents who facilitated this programme for four weeks. Your contribution is very important and much appreciated! On 7 th March, 104 pupils made their First Confession. This, too, was a lovely ceremony. Since Christmas, our girls have taken part in many events, including Sciath na Scol, camogie, Peace Proms in Limerick, Spelling Bee in Rochestown Park Hotel, singing and playing music in our annual fundraising concert, Port of Cork Competition, the VEX IQ Robotics Competition in CIT in Association with DellEMC, Grandparents’ Day and celebrations to commemorate St. Brigid’s & St. Patrick’s Day! Our 2 nd , 4 th and 6 th Classes piloted the Drumcondra Standardised Reading & Maths Tests, both the online and the paper versions. This was an interesting and informative experience and one where our opinions were sought and valued! We were delighted to be invited to sing at the Mass for the coming of the centennial statue of Our Lady of Fatima on Tuesday last, 28 th March, in the Church of the Most Holy Rosary. It was a moving occasion! Our next big event will take place on 13 th May, when the pupils from St. Brigid’s, Educate Together and St. John the Baptist will receive their First Holy Communion. We look forward to another great celebration! If you know of any prospective pupils who have not yet enrolled, please remind their parents to contact Gillian in the office. There was great talent on show including the School Band, School Choir and the 4 th class performers. All monies raised at present are for our current fund- raising project which is the professional painting of games on the school yards. This is an expensive project as we have so many yards in the school, so we appreciate your support with our fundraising. We hope to get this project done soon and have been guaranteed that it will last five to six years. Thanks to everyone for supporting our Annual Easter Egg Raffle, we will have some very happy girls on the day of the raffle. We are hoping to hold our ‘Book and Bear Sale’ after Easter. We are now taking donations for same, so if you would like to donate children’s books and any bears/ cuddly toys please leave them bagged in the small hall. As soon as we have enough books and bears we will confirm a date for this event. We are continuing with our clothes collection for the NCBI, so you can drop your bags to the small hall also. Well done to all the pupils and teachers in 4th class who enter-

tained us with a Beatles’ Medley at the recent Parents’ Association

concert. The girls learned nine Beatles’ songs in total and delighted

their audiences with beautiful singing and colourful costumes. The

school band performed three pieces on the night and were a credit

to themselves and their teachers. The school choir gave a short

snippet from the Peace Proms repertoire. Musical talent is well and

truly alive in Scoil Bhríde!

Our Green School Committee continued raising awareness on how looking after the environment aids people all over the world. We highlighted the importance of sending our electrical waste to WEEE (Waste, Electrical and Electronic equipment) or reputable waste collectors who will ensure that it is disposed of properly. We have collected ten boxes of used batteries and are waiting for WEEE to col-lect them.

Thank you to everyone for sending them in.

Feast Day Celebrations!Feast Day Celebrations!Feast Day Celebrations!Feast Day Celebrations!

We celebrated our two Patron Saint’s feast days this term with two inspiring prayer services. Well done to Ms. Moynihan’s 1st

class who told us the story of St. Brigid through drama and song and to Mrs. Smith’s 3rd class who presented the St. Patrick’s

Day service.

6th class entered the Vex IQ DellEMC robotics

competition which was held in The Cork Insti-

tute of Technology in January. We built, pro-

grammed and drove a robot called Clover and

had a great educational day out. The class com-

pleted a STEM project on ‘How to dissect

‘Furby’ and this project was placed in the top

10 (out of 50!) for their presentation.

Congratulations to Wik-

toria from 6th class who

was shortlisted for the

‘Doodle for Google’ com-

petition this year.

The after school choir had a very busy term preparing for the 2017 Peace Proms in Limerick.

The choir attended a workshop to warm up for the main event which was held on a Saturday

in March. The choir learned a variety of songs and medleys which they performed with a

live orchestra and professional conductor. The girls were outstanding and we are very proud

of them. A big thanks to teachers, Ms. O’Sullivan, Ms. Sands, Ms, O’Shea and Ms. Casey for

all your hard work.
