ROCK

SCHOOLMASTERCLASS

Professional drummer and teacher John Roberts, from the band ‘The Blockheads’, and former Ditcham Park School pupil, Luca Davidson, will be running a one day Rock School Masterclass on Thursday 2nd April.

This masterclass is aimed at rock bands who wish to hone their musicianship under the expert direction of John and Luca. Bands will also have the chance to record a performance at the end of the class which will be broadcast live on social media. Bands will need to sign up as a group to participate. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate individual musicians. The course will run from 9.00am-4.00pm and is aimed at 11-15 year olds. Participants will need to bring a nut free packed lunch and their musical instruments.

DRAMA MASTERCLASS

Ever wondered what happens to unclaimed suitcases and baggage at the airport? They end up in an auction house – SOLD to the highest bidder.

What kind of TREASURE might you find in someone else’s wayward suitcase? Who goes to these auctions?

There is only one way to find out and that is to visit the shabby home of ‘Greasby’s Auctioneers’ in Tooting London, which takes delivery of about 100 suitcases from various UK airports each week. On arrival, you will bid in a group to win one of five lost luggage items and take part in a practical session which will prepare you to devise an original piece of exciting theatre, based on ‘the story behind the bag.’ The question is…what will you discover when you look inside?

This course will run from 9.00am-4.00pm and is aimed at 7-11 year olds. Participants will need to bring a nut free packed lunch, plus drinks and snacks.

Lost & Found

On our way back from a scientific expedition in the Amazon jungle, our plane mysteriously ran out of fuel and we were forced to land on a remote desert island.

Armed with our scientific knowledge and laboratory equipment we will need to build a shelter, find food, make clean drinking water, contact help and build a raft to safely carry us to a more populated island. Are you up for the challenge to survive and escape the island?

Some of the activities will be outside, weather permitting, so please bring layers to dress warmly as well as waterproof clothing and wellington boots. Whilst inside the laboratory you will need to wear sensible shoes with no open toes. Science can get messy, so please do not wear your best clothes to this event!

You will need to bring a nut free packed lunch plus drinks and snacks. This course will run from 9.00am - 4.00pm and is aimed at children aged 7-11 years.

Masterclass With Gary Goodman

Gary Goodman, a professional painter and poet, will run an expressive drawing class where students will be drawing to a large scale and size, using a variety of mark making tools.

Gary, who has exhibited his paintings around the world including Norway, Alaska New Zealand and the Southern States of the USA, will offer his expert guidance and tuition to children aged 7-11 years. The course will run from 9.00am – 4.00pm and participants will need to bring a nut free packed lunch, plus drinks and snacks. We recommend that participants wear old clothes or bring an art apron/overall to wear.

Award-winning commercial and lifestyle photographer, Tina Knowles (formerly Tina Bolton) will hold two half day photography masterclasses at Ditcham Park School on the morning and afternoon of Wednesday 8th April.

This course will:

• Enable you to take better photos and have more fun with your photography

• Improve your photography

• Increase your knowledge of camera functions

The morning course will run from 9.00am -12.00pm for children aged 7-11 years. The afternoon course will run from 1.00pm – 4.00pm for children aged 11-15 years.

Participants will need a digital camera or an advanced smart phone. Please bring a drink and snack.

Digital Whizzkidz is a course run by Mr Harding, Head of Computer Science at Ditcham Park School. You will have a taste of virtual reality (VR) by taking a virtual tour of the world around us with Google’s VR expeditions. You will fully immerse yourself when you create a 360° tour of your own, right from your computer! Using our ‘Oculus Rift’, you will also have a chance to see how VR is changing the way people connect, interact, work and even play games.

Later in the day, you will learn how to code in a creative way using ‘Kodu’ to produce your own game with the option to begin creating artificial intelligence using a coding language called ‘python’!

This one day course will run from 9.00am - 4.00pm and is for children aged 7-11 years. Participants will need to bring a nut free packed lunch, plus drinks and snacks.
