Opening Credits
It starts zooming out from the river Thames
and the audience then see the O2 arena
so the audience then know the soap is
based in London.
The sound starts with a drum and then
piano music which is the soap’s code. This
let’s the audience know that the soap is
starting if they were to be in a different
room.
The title comes up ‘Eastenders’ which sets
the scene more specifically so the
audience know it’s set in the east end of
London. This also introduces the basic
information about the soap.

First Scene
The mise en scene of the first shot shows school
bags, pens and a football at the bottom of a staircase
showing this is a home to a family.
A male character’s feet are shown while he quietly
creeps down the stairs to get his shoes suggesting
he is leaving.
As he stands upwards, the shot pans upwards to
leading to the top of the stairs as he walks out the
camera shot suggesting he’s leaving.
The mise en scene of the carpet represents that the
house is not wealthy as it isn’t clean and looks quite
dull. The teddy on the stairs indicates there’s more
than one child.

A middle aged, woman character is introduced
just wearing a robe which she was still tying up
suggesting she was naked.
She then walks down the stairs showing her
identity which shows she must be the mother
figure of the household.
The sentence she says suggests this was a
one night stand as it shows the audience why
the man is leaving as he’s trying to sneak
away. It also shows the woman is upset by the
fact he is leaving.
The male character looks up then looks down in
guilt telling us that he didn’t want the woman
character to know he was sneaking out.

Second Scene
A well dressed woman who looks after her
appearance is introduced in a grubby cafe where her
appearance contrasts with the others around her. i.e.
The builders.
Her jewellery and make up look like she is putting on
a performance for the men as she looks like she is
high maintenance with the mise en scene of the
jewellery and they way she presents herself.
A male character is introduced when the phone is
answered who is a business man in a suit an leather
chair however it seems he is involved in a dodgy
business through the mise en scene of the messy,
unorganised office which is also dull and shadowed.
The distress shown by the woman character afer she
is called a ‘prostitute’ shows she isn’t happy at all
about something and lets the audience know
immediately something is going wrong for her.

She puts her hand to her face before replying telling
the audience that she is stressed and in a situation
with the man on the phone that she does not want to
be in.
She puts her hand to her face before replying telling
the audience that she is stressed and in a situation
with the man on the phone that she does not want to
be in.
The next shot is a framed shot between two
items in the office that are out of focus then
the man’s in a close up focussed shot in
between. This tells the audience that even
though he’s laughing he’s a bad character.
The shadows on the male character’s face
and the darkness of this shot show that this
character is a bad character and dark
colours like the black in the shot are used
to represent evil.
The dialogue in the shot tells the audience
that the woman on the other side of the
phone is being blackmailed. It explains why
she seems stressed when talking to the
male character.
