Includes coral, oceans, and estuaries Plants include: algae, seaweed, and
kelp Animals include: whales, many
shellfish such as shrimp, and jellyfish
Are made of salt water

Freshwater
Are not made of salt water Includes rivers, lakes, and ponds Plants include: plankton and algae Animals include: carp, frogs , turtles,
and catfish

Land Biomes

Rainforest
Rarely gets higher in temperature than 93°F nor any lower than 68°F.
Is almost constantly rainy and one of the wettest climates
Plants include: curare, quinine, and rosy periwinkle.
Animals include: monkeys, macaws, and toucans.

Temperate forest
Contains trees that lose their leaves in the fall
Have the average temperature of 50°F Gets 50 to 60 inches per year Plants include: azaleas, mountain
laurels, and huckleberries Animals include: raccoons, grey
squirrels, and cardinals

Desert
Hot and dry Temperatures go from 77°F to 120°F
at maximum Plant include: cactus, brittle bush,
and prickly pears Animals include: cactus wren,
coyote, and javelina

Tundra
Barren land The soil is frozen so there are no
trees growing Plants include: Arctic moss,
bearberry, and arctic willows Animals include: arctic fox, caribou,
and ermine

Grasslands
Are full of grass and sparse amount of trees
Plants include: buffalo grass, crazy weed, and sunflower
Animals include: red-tailed hawk, monarch butterflies, and eastern cottontail rabbit

Taiga
Russian word for forest Is very cold Temperature ranges from 30.°F to -
65°F Plants include: Balsam fir, Black
spruce, and Douglas Fir Animals include: Black Bear, Bobcat,
Bald eagle
