Earth Day Activities: 50 th Anniversary on April 22, 2020 ACTIVITY #1: I Love the Earth Brainstorm Materials: piece of paper, pencil, device to watch Youtube 1. Watch “The Earth Book” by Todd Parr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpEc5nHqO2c 2. Inspired by the book and Ms. Cowan’s started brainstorm, create your own brainstorm web with your ideas on what we can do to show that we love the earth. Send Ms. Cowan a picture of your brainstorm! ACTIVITY #2: Beautiful Oops! Art Materials: device to watch video, any recycled materials, glue, scissors, tape, colouring tools etc. 1. Look around your house for something that you do not use anymore that you can turn into art. Examples: toilet paper roll, piece of plastic, ripped paper, empty container, cardboard box, old crayons, broken toy *Make sure you ask your parents first before you turn anything into Beautiful Oops! Art* 3. Use your creative thinking to imagine all the different ways you can transform your material into something completely different. 4. Create your Beautiful Oops! art. 5. Send a picture to Ms. Cowan! ACTIVITY #3: Newspaper Self-Portrait-à (a Beautiful Oops! example) Materials: newspaper, pencil, sharpie, materials for colouring (crayons, markers, pencil crayons) 1. Use your pencil to draw a whole-body self-portrait on a piece of newspaper. Use your artist brain and Creative Thinking and include lots of details. 2. Use a sharpie to trace over your pencil drawing to make it “pop” on your newspaper. 3. Colour in your clothes and hair on your self-portrait however you like! Do not colour the skin, it will stay as newspaper. You could even cut it out to display somewhere in your home. 4. Take a picture and send it to Ms. Cowan.

ACTIVITY #4: Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt Materials: scavenger hunt check list (printed copy or blank piece of paper to draw and write what you find), pencil, “Scientist eyes”

1. Go on a Nature Walk in your neighbourhood and keep your “Scientist eyes” open and looking for all of the things in the scavenger hunt checklist.

(While you are out on your walk, you could even look for hearts in windows!) 2. Optional: Take pictures of things you notice on your walk and send them to Ms. Cowan

ACTIVITY #5: Earth Day Word Search Materials: pencil and word search paper (If you don’t have a printer you could still look for the words on your screen)

1. Have fun looking for these Earth Day Words! ACTIVITY #6: Earth Day Colouring Sheets Materials: colouring materials

1. Print off colouring sheets and have fun colouring with your family!
