Earth and Environmental Science

Our earth

• What is Earth?• Earth is the third planet from the sun.

• It the densest and the fifth largest of the eight planets in the solar system.

• Earth is currently the only known astronomical body where life is known to exist.

• It is home to millions of species including humans.

• Earth was formed 4.54 billions years ago, and life appeared on its surface within a billion years.

• The shape of the Earth is very close to that of an Oblate Spheroid.

earth’s crust, mantle and core

• Earth’s interior:• Earth has a diameter of about

12,756 km. Earth’s interior consists of rock and metal. It is made up of 4 main layers:

• The CRUST : thin silicate rock material

• The MANTEL: dense and mostly solid silicate rock.

• The OUTER CORE: a liquid molten core of nickel and iron.

• The INNER CORE: a solid metal core made up of nickel and iron(2440 km diameter)

• The temperature in the core is hotter than the Sun’s surface

Human beings on earth• A human or a human being is a person. The scientific name for Human

species is Homo sapiens, which means “wise man” in Latin. Humans are bipedal which means they walk on two feet. Humans are :Men, Women and children.

• Women , Men and Children

Population

• A population is all the organisms that both belong to the same species and live in the same geographical area.

• Due to the increase of population, Earth is getting destroyed humans for their sake are cutting trees, which helps in providing Oxygen (a gas ,which helps a human to live or survive)

• Earth has provided us with thousands of privileges but in return we have damaged our mother Earth.

Pollution

• Pollution is contaminating of the environment as a result of human activities.

• It is created mostly by human actions, but can also be a result of natural disasters.

• Example: Air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, noise pollution etc.

• Pollutions cause damage to Earth and all the things living on it.

Ozone layer

• Ozone is a gas made up of three oxygen atoms (O 3).It occurs naturally in small amount in the upper atmosphere (the stratosphere) .

• Ozone protects life on Earth from the Sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays .

• In 1980s , scientists began finding holes in the Ozone layer.

Green house effect and global warming

• The green house effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gases in the atmosphere trap energy from the sun.

• Global warming is a slow but steady rise in Earth’s temperature .If earth’s becomes hotter, the sea level will also become higher because the temperature rise will make ice glaciers melt. The sea level rise may cause coastal areas to flood.

Save earth

• How to save Earth??• There are many ways to save our Earth .Some are:

• Dispose off the waste properly.• Spread awareness about it.• Reduce , Reuse , Recycle• Conserve energy• Save Water ETC.

Our Unique earth

• There are many different types of animals on Earth.

• Like some animals Fly in the sky

• Some stay on land.• But one different thing on

Earth is that ……………. Whoever lives on Earth is UNIQUE in some or the other way because Life on Earth Unique as Our marvelous Earth is UNIQUE……………

• Rainbow is seen in the sky after rain.
