Introduction to Blogging
What is a blog?
For sure, you have been asking yourself this question, what is a blog? Well, now is
the time to get you clear about that.
A blog is usually what most people use to promote their website. Some people also
use it to promote their products and some just to earn money online by pleasing
their readers.
A blog can be anything you post on the internet without someone’s restriction. It
can be completely your feelings, your thoughts, your political views, a product
review or it can be associated with the company you are working for. Bloggers
usually post updates on the internet with the aim of informing, educating or
pursuing people to take action. A blog can contain text, photos and videos and all
those might be linked to other related sources.
In simple terms, a blog is your freedom of expression, freedom of publishing on the
net without violating someone else’s rights.
Why do people blog?
If you have read carefully the previous paragraph, I have already answered this
question. People blog to promote their website, to promote the products they are
offering, to entertain, educate and to pursue others to take action. An example of
pursuing people to take actions could be someone who writes a piece on their
website to describe the challenges they have and pursuing people who visit their
site to donate or make certain contribution.

Why people read blogs?
Generally, blogs are short versions of what people are looking for in a website, they
are supposed to be straight to the point, easy to understand and are informative.
So people read blogs to get that instant information about service, product, news
clips they are looking for. They want to be informed, to be entertained and some
are searching for reasonable pursuing information for them to make contributions
or to assist them to take actions. So when we write our blogs we should take
consideration of the inform, entertain and pursue function/purpose so that our
readers stay hooked in reading our blog posts. An example of informing function
blogging could be a website for job posting. Here people will be interested to know
about jobs advertised, who advertised them, what is the salary scale and how to
apply. If you are this kind of blogger just like I do, make sure that your blog post
are accurately posted with common Search Engine Keywords. Let’s talk about
keywords later.
What makes a blog interesting?
Like I said in the previous paragraphs, you blog should be informative, entertaining
and persuasive if you need your readers to stay hooked. Readers like to be filled in
when reading a post, you need to show them what you want them to know and they
need as much information in a shortened way. They need to feel your post, fantasy,
total imagination and emotional feeling at some instance.
It is also advisable to mention that readers love to read “neat” stuff. Your posts
should be error free, otherwise they will say “this guy does not know what he/she
is doing”. So try to please your readers at all times.
Your post should not only reflect fantasy but also must have a feeling of reality.
Make referrals in some of the points you are trying to make. You have nothing to
lose just to mention one or two sources of the information you are referring to,
examples and links of your recommended websites.

Speaking of referrals let me tell you about my favorite Blogger. His name is John
Chow and his website is johnchow.com. The guy is a good blogger, he knows what he
blogs about and he keeps it short and simple.
Where can I create a free blog
Blogger
Google has some fantastic but free blogging service. Blogger.com is a place to be if
you like to start a blog using Google services. Blogger will give you a free domain
name which will end with .blogspot.com, example sabestjobs.blogspot.com
Blogger is easy to use, non-complicated, and full of integrated gadgets. It can
automatically be available on the Google depending on your setting.
You can invite about 100 more people to post their entries of blogger.
If you are a first time blogger, I recommend blogger for you to start with.
World press
Worldpress can be another alternative for you to create your blog. I have not used
worldpress so much that I could say more about it but you can take a look at it
maybe you will like it. Example adammalapa.worldpress.com

Yola
Yola.com is a web hosting site with free site building templates and free hosting
for domain names that ends with yolasite.com example malapatrading.yolasite.com.
I have used Yola on four of my websites. Yola is a bit complicated to use but if you
take time to look at the features on the site builder menu, you can master it in no
time. You just need to register yourself by going to www.yola.com the click “Get
started” and follow instructions. Then you can start creating your blog(s). You can
create up to 25 sites on Yola. You can use it as free domain or buy a domain while
on the web builder account.

Marketing your blog
How will people know about my blog?
Marketing your blog is as important as updating your blog. People will never know
about your blog unless you tell them about it. You might be wondering now how you
can do it. Well, let me remove your wondering mood from you.
There are a lot of free methods you can use to market your blog or website.
Using social networks
Social networks these days are becoming more and more used even in areas where
computer access is rarely accessible. Today, millions or let me rephrase this,
billions of people use mobile phones. Modern mobile phones have wap enabling
services, allowing end-users to browse the internet using their phones. Social
networks also have taken the advantage of these services. They have hade it their
business to make sure that mobile phone users maximize the utilization of their
networks. You can take advantage of the social networks as well to market your
blog.
The most used network is Facebook, it has more than 500 million active users
of which 50% log on the site everyday. Facebook users spend about 700 billion
minutes per month and an average user has about 130 friends.
Twitter is another social network which can also be integrated with facebook
user profile and pages. You can use Twitter to update you followers on your latest
blog posts. You can also link your Tweets with your Facebook Fan Page.
Twiends helps you get more Facebook Fan Pages likes, Twitter
followers and You Tube Video views. You can log onto Twiends using you Facebook
or Twitter account.

Using classified ads site
Some of the best classifieds site includes: Gumtree, Kalahariads, OXL and more
other sites. These sites are good for sending traffic to your site but you need to
put real content and they strictly discourage spamming.
Maximising site traffic, Building readerships and recurrent visitors
For your readership to keep on visiting your site you need to have a good
readership retaining strategy. Below are some of the common but effective
strategies for maintaining and building readerships database.
RRS feeds subscriptions
You might be asking yourself, what the hell is this? RRS stand for Really Simple
Syndication, RRS feeds are important for readers who are interested in
subscribing to your posts. They can be as a summary of each post or can be sent to
subscribers as full post. Subscribers can subscribe to these feeds, giving them
freedom to unsubscribe whenever they feel like doing so.
You can put a RRS feeds button on your site so that your readers can easily know
that they can subscribe to your feeds. If your blog does not have RRS Feeds
button option, you can burn feeds and paste a code on your website which will
display a button for your readers to subscribe. Click here to burn feeds using
Feedburner, another Google Product.

Email Subscription
Email subscription can be another way to keep your readers who might have not
subscribed by RRS feeds to be regularly updated when you have interesting
postings you would like to share with them.
You can create a page for Subscriptions where you will encourage your subscribers
to subscribe via Email. The more regular site visitors, the more you earn revenue.
Speaking of revenue, let me now tell you how you can earn from your blog.
How then do I earn revenue?
I’m sure this is the most important part you were impatiently looking for, I’m also
sure that you have just jumped into this section, just kidding. On a more serious
note, let’s talk about making money online. There are lots of ways to do this but let
me tell you about the methods I have used which have been working for me which
is going to work for you. Note that you won’t start with enough earnings on one day
like what other affiliate marketing sites preaches. Through implementation of the
steps I mentioned above you can get there in the pace that suite you.
Now let’s start. Whether you are from Africa, Asia, America, Europe, Australia or
anywhere in the world, you might have heard of online business. Work-from- home,
Work-at-home, Online data entry jobs, these are the common messages you may
have come across as advertised on the net.
Working from home comes in different kinds, sizes and different costs. At the
moment I’m doing the blogging job as a part-time thing, maintaining my full time
job as a community journalist.

Google Adsense
The main source for my income is Google Adsense. Google Adsense is an online
marketing system owned by Google. They offer bloggers, website owners, and
publishers to place advertisements on their website and earn revenue per visitor’s
clicks. Google Adsense advertisements come as text links, ext and images and video
ads. They are simple to place on the website and they display ads that are related
to the contents of your webpage. For example if your page is about Online Money-
Making, it is common that you will see more ads displayed as “work from home”,
“online jobs” and more similar ads.
Google Adsense has a monthly minimum payout of R1000ZA, about $100USD.
Addynamo
Addynamo is also an online marketing system that offers publishers to place ads on
their sites and earn income. The difference with Addynamo is that it targets
county specific ads not necessarily contents related.
Addynamo has a minimum monthly payout of R100ZA, about $15USD.
Bidvertiser
Another onlime marketing programme is Bidvertiser. It has a minimum monthly
payout of $10USD.

How do I get paid?
Most of the sites online marketing systems use the following programmes to pay
publishers or blogger.
Paypal
PayPal in an online system that can accept transfer of funds using debit card,
credit card in a secured way. In this way, no one gets to know your banking details,
card number or your bank for that matter. PayPal account is created using Email
address and can be linked to most credit cards and debit cards. Once one has
verified their ownership of the Email address they can start sending or receiving
money from anyone anywhere in the world. In South Africa, one can transfer funds
from their PayPal account to the First National Banks provided that the two
accounts are linked together. The linking facilities can be found on both paypal.com
ZA and fnb.co.za websites.
Alertpay
Alertpay works more similar as PayPal
Direct Transfer
Some programmes can transfer funds directly into your bank account. An example
is the Addynamo.
Earning some Money ONLINE eBook [Adam Malapa]

Cheque/Check
Google Adsense only uses checks/cheques to pay their publishers. Once a publisher
ahs reached a minimum threshold amount of about R700 or $100USD, they can ask
Adsense to send them a verification of physical address card which contain a
unique number to be inserted to one’s Adsense account. Then, publishers could be
sent their checks/cheques on a monthly basis provided they have reached their
minimum monthly payout amount.
