Your Commodore at the America's Cup! I think everyone who attended the Gary Jobson dinner would agree his presentation was inspiring! As Gary talked about the upcoming 34th America's Cup challenge, I thought why not experience it for myself? Laura and I were excited to be invited to an America's Cup Chalet for one of the race days. Another day we watched the races from one of the America's Cup Villages at Pier 27. It was thrilling to watch these AC72's hydrofoil before our eyes! The fact that Team Oracle USA came from 8 to 1 to win eight consecutive races and keep the America's Cup is amazing. It has been called "a come back for the ages."

This 34th race marked a transformation for the oldest trophy in international sports. Some of the notable first features. This was the first time the racing took place inshore. This made the racing accessible to hundreds of thousands of spectators from the shore. It was the first time all teams raced wing sail catamarans, AC72's. It was also the first time for a youth series hosted by Red Bull. The Emmy Award winning AC Live Line graphics added layers of information to television screens. This made it easier than ever for television watchers to understand the sport of sailing. The shortened course also made it quick and exciting for viewers at home as well as on shore.

Although this year's races started out with some controversy about the type of boats being sailed, I think it ended on high note. Not only was Team Oracle USA thrillingly victorious, but the sport of sailing was seen by more viewers than ever before. This 34th America's Cup race has taught us all a lesson in perseverance! Team Oracle displayed exemplary optimism in devastating circumstances. Hopefully, our young sailors at EYC will be motivated to compete not only at our lovely Eagle Harbor but to seek out competition by traveling to regattas. There are many opportunities for sailing at the high school and college levels, and beyond. At EYC, we aim to give our young sailors a firm foundation of sailing skills. I look forward to seeing where these skills will take our sailors.

Clubhouse and Dock Report FRED LEWIS AND RICH BIERMAN

Wow, it's hard to believe that summer is over and the fall is upon us. I think every year the summer can’t come quickly enough but each year it seems to go by faster. I have been told it is age that causes time to fly by; however, that can’t be the case because, in my mind, I am still 16 sailing my Sunfish sailboat in Eagle Harbor, so I'm not sure that old “chestnut” is applicable here. I would imagine you feel the same way. On to the report. I want to first start out by introducing our new House Chairman, Fred Lewis, who continues to impress me with his dedication, commitment and true desire to work with EYC. We were fortunate enough to have Fred join our board and I was fortunate enough to have him take over the duties of the House. We have many ongoing plans for this off season which will be accomplished by the spring.

Fred is in the process of tearing out the floor and remodeling the west bathroom on his own with some minor help on a few items. This upgrade will entail new tile floors, a vanity and painting.

There will also be a bit of a technology upgrade done this fall with some new dock cams and many other features that will just have to wait until to spring to be experienced. Keep checking the webcams to see when the new cameras are installed.

There will also be some minor repairs and maintenance to the facility, but overall the EYC clubhouse is in great shape and Fred is looking to keep it that way.

The dock has received its final addition -- the concrete is done! At the time I am writing this, we are awaiting the final tie-down points to be drilled into the concrete. This process has marked years of work to get rid of the gravel. Once and for all, we will be able to roll boats with ease anywhere on the dock.

We also experimented with floating docks last year that worked out very well with the low water levels. The docks will get a few tweaks in the off season to get them to sit more level in the water which will allow them to move up and down easier with the changing water levels.

One thing that many of you will notice this year on the webcam or driving by is shrink-wrapped boats. We will be shrink wrapping many of the boats into a racking system that will be located on the dock for the winter. This process gives us the ability not to have to transport boats, thereby risking damage, and also requires less work from the membership during the opening and closing of the club. Shrink wrapping has been a proven solution as you will see with hundreds of different size boats and yachts wintered this way in Sturgeon Bay (as well as elsewhere). If this works out well, this will be a long-term solution for most of our fleet.

There will be more sail/dock boxes made during the winter for next year along with a punch list of many maintenance items. We are also hoping to shore up the corner by the red anchor and burgee as the dock has eroded under the concrete. At this time, we are working out the details for this to happen and hope to accomplish this item before spring.

Finally, we are always looking for more people to be involved with the most exciting group at the EYC -- the Dock and Clubhouse Crew! If you have an interest in working into a Dock Chairman role or just helping out, please let us know as we are open to any help and or skill set you wish to provide. 2014 Dues For 2014, Family dues remain at $175 with an early bird price (prior to February 28, 2014) of $160. Single and Senior dues remain at $150 with an early bird price (prior to February 28, 2014) of $135. Student memberships will be $65.

Look for membership renewal emails in mid to late January. For those of you without email, we will once again be sending paper renewal forms in January. If your email has changed, please access your membership profile at www.eycwi.clubexpress.com using your username and password to update your email address or any other personal information that has changed. You may also access this information from the EYC’s website www.eyc.org and click on the Member Info tab.

Directory Deadline

The EYC’s paper membership directory will contain the names of all paid members as of April 1. If you renew your membership after April 1, your name will not be

included in the paper membership directory, which is mailed in May. Each family will be mailed ONE printed membership directory for 2014. Additional membership directories may be purchased online during the renewal process for $10. Membership/Holiday Gifts

Membership in the Ephraim Yacht Club is a wonderful gift. As a reminder, a Junior Member is not required to pay any initiation fee to become a Single or Family member if the Junior Member becomes a Single or Family Member no later than one year following his/her 25th birthday. Dinner With Gary Jobson Fundraiser A Big Success The EYC’s July 13 Dinner with Gary Jobson summer fundraising event was a big success, held in perfect summer weather at Alexander’s of Door County. Over 230 people attended, enjoying cocktails, dinner and Gary’s multimedia presentation, which was very entertaining and covered a wide range of the sport of sailing. The event together with the associated silent auction netted over $10,000 to support the EYC. Many volunteers made the evening possible. They were involved in all aspects of the event, including auction solicitations, sponsorship, decorations, signage, layout, nametags, printing, set-up, sound, lighting, venue negotiation, menu selection, check-in, check-out, and much more. EYC Commodore’s Party 2013 – A Winning Combination SUE AND DICK VOLKMANN Record Crowd – Great New Venue

All the elements were in harmony Saturday, August 10th as our new Commodore Jack O’Rourke thanked Jay Lott for his outstanding two years at the helm of EYC and welcomed Sibylle Tasker as Vice-Commodore. Eric Hoyerman received the Junior Sportsmanship Award, but race winners’ trophy presentations were delayed until all race series were completed.

We ran out of 300 name tags which indicated a record-breaking crowd, and Woody Heidler, Sailing School Director, provided the amazing comparison that his staff had 300 students complete the EYC summer sailing sessions this year. Congratulations to all!

We hit a new high this year with our party at Peninsula School of Art. Decked out in all its finest blooms on a gorgeous summer evening, it was hailed by all of us as the perfect venue. The lilting melodies of Katie and George and their Jazz Standards provided outstanding entertainment for our enjoyment, while Susan Reynolds-Smith and daughter Stephanie completed the elegant setting with the final summer sale of Susan’s colorful and inspired EYC-ware designs.

Regatta Welcome Party Once again the Ephraim Regatta Welcome party was held at Olga Dana Green. This location offers fabulous water views as well as convenience for sailors. It works well for sailors to pick up registration packets at EYC then head across the street for an inexpensive BBQ meal in a lovely outdoor setting. This event was attended by over 100 people, both sailors and non-sailing EYC families! We look forward to seeing everyone next year! 2014 Flying Scot Midwinter Championship NANCY CLAYPOOL

Make plans now! The Flying Scot 2014 Midwinter Championship will be held at Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans on March 16-21, 2014. The preliminary schedule has Sunday, March 16th as a measurement day, and Monday, March 17th as a measurement day and practice race day, followed by the Welcome Cocktail Party and the Competitors Meeting. Race days are Tuesday, March 18 through Friday, March 21. Up to eight races will be attempted. Trophies will be presented following the completion of racing on Friday. Other social events expected are a Seafood Boil and a Beignet Breakfast Buffet. Further information will be available on the Flying Scot website as the date approaches. www.fssa.com.

In addition, Saturday, March 15th and Sunday, March 16th are the dates for the New Orleans St. Patrick’s Day parades. (Mardi Gras is over on Wednesday, March 5th.) If you have not experienced a New Orleans parade, you may want work one of these into your plans:

The St. Patrick's Day parades are considered another opportunity for family and friends to get together and enjoy one of the biggest street parties of the year. Men and women in walking groups from various clubs in the city dress in costumes of green, give out flowers and beads to lucky parade goers along the route. Floats and truck floats (those on flatbed trailers created by the riders themselves) respond to the call, "Throw me something, Mister!" Historically, the parade's most famous throws are cabbages, carrots, onions, and moonpies.

So, whether you’d like to come to New Orleans for sailing, shopping, eating, music, antiquing, architecture, partying, parading, or one of its many other offerings, come join in the festivities that week with your fellow Flying Scot sailors. The EYC’s Sailing Lesson Program: Bigger And Better In 2013 JAY LOTT, EDUCATION COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN The EYC’s sailing lesson program is large and of high quality. The program’s quality improved and the number of lesson sessions taught continued to grow from 282 student sessions in 2012 to 321 in 2013, an increase of more than 13%. We had a lot of positive feedback and compliments from students and parents. Our staff of

seventeen instructors, led by Sailing Director Woody Heidler did an excellent job with a focus on quality instruction and safety. Our fleets have increased in size and are in better repair than ever.

Of particular note in 2013 was a large increase in the EYC’s sailing scholarship program. In 2012, the EYC taught 16 scholarship student-sessions, all unfunded, whereas, in 2013, we taught 45, of which 32 were funded by $9,000 allocated from the Aaron R. Moore Sailing Scholarship fund and 11 were unfunded. Scholarships include a free student membership, a free textbook, and a 3/4 discount on tuition. Scholarships are available to year-round residents of Door County who would not be able to afford sailing lessons except for the scholarship. The powerboat fleet was upgraded by purchasing the Aaron R. Moore RIB, adding life to the Uff Da RIB with new tubes, and replacing two 35-year-old outboards on our 13’ Whalers with new 4-stroke outboards. Our upgraded powerboat fleet meant lessons were taught more effectively and more safely in 2013. The best way to teach a sailing lesson is for each student to be in his or her own sailboat, supervised by an instructor in a powerboat.

Our in-house instructor training continues to improve every year. In-house instructor training takes places over a two-week period once all the instructors have arrived in early June. Modules include safety, seamanship, powerboat use, general employee training, sales (customer service), curriculum, and radio use.

The Advanced 420 Clinic (July 6-7) was a success, fully enrolled at 34 students. Our visiting instructors, Martha Pitt and Bobby Collins, provided a high level of instruction and a great example to our own instructors. We hope to able to arrange a similar clinic for 2014.

EYC Bridge 2013 SUZANNE J. LISLE Bridge was again a popular activity at EYC this past season. There was a full schedule offering both open play and lesson formats. New club members were welcomed, some of whom were thinking they would join only to play bridge. As often happens, those new members were soon seen participating in and supporting other club activities.

Open play was held on Monday afternoons and regularly included 16-20 participants. It is strictly a come-if-you-can format; no predetermined partner or reservations needed. The program continued to be well attended as the season drew to an end, with no one ready to stop. With the kindness of the Commodore and Clubhouse Committee, the last day of play was extended until October 3! Many thanks are offered for the extended season. Couples’ bridge offered on Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m. provided the opportunity for pairs to play and it was followed by an option of dinner out. Any member is welcome to join this group; just bring a partner and come to play. Don and Donna Nelson coordinated this group; their notes will follow.

We welcomed new instructor Carolyn Kimbell and her husband Bob on Thursday mornings for an eight week class. Enrollment was full with 32 participants and 6 audit/substitute participants. Carolyn is an ACBL certified instructor, and guided students to better play using conventions that enhance the game. EYC members continue to play duplicate bridge at the Clearing, in sanctioned games on the peninsula, and in their respective winter locations.

EYC bridge players responded as a group to underwrite a new 420 for the fleet last summer, and have chosen the name “Finesse” for that boat. They look forward to cheering on the skipper of that boat! Other bridge players had previously contributed to the campaign.

We are encouraging those seeking beginner lessons to do so in their winter locations, including checking schedules at the Clearing. It seems unlikely based on past experience that we will reach the threshold to schedule beginner lessons.

Women on the Water! “WOW”! Women -- whether you’re in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, or 80’s, there’s a place for you at the Ephraim Yacht Club on the water! In 2014, we’d like to organize more activities for women on the water – whether it’s sailing, racing, cruising, powerboating, etc. Whether you’re new or experienced with boating and/or sailing, there is a place for you off the dock and on the water! If you have suggestions for a WOW activity, please contact Nan Zimdars at nzimdars@zimfin.com or Nancy Claypool at nclaypool@stonepigman.com who are working on events for the upcoming season. Tuesday Couples Bridge DON AND DONNA NELSON The EYC Tuesday Couples bridge group was quite successful this year. Both Donna and I had fun playing bridge and eating out at various restaurants in Door County. We would like to take this time to thank all of you who played, and we look forward to even greater participation next summer. For some of you, the challenge was locating a bridge partner on some afternoons. In an effort to alleviate this problem, we are going to prepare a phone list of all eligible bridge players. We hope everyone has an enjoyable winter and look forward to seeing you in the spring.

A big Thank You goes out to all the women of EYC who make our club so wonderful. We are so lucky to have so many women volunteer to host our multitude of social events. These fabulous parties could not happen without you! Thanks to Carol Kraemer who headed First Mates for the last two years. Carol did a great job organizing the volunteers for every event. I look forward to working together with all of EYC's dynamic women for the next two years!

Bunco LAURA O'ROURKE

Once again EYC Bunco was a hit. Thanks to all who signed up to host the six Monday evenings. Bunco provides the ladies of the EYC with a fun "GNO". This social game allows for much conversation and many laughs -- even a dance or two! It is a great way for new members to meet a fun group of ladies. We roll dice as we watch the sunset on beautiful Eagle Harbor! We always welcome friends or family visitors. It's a great evening out. We also accommodate those sailors who come up after races. Mark your calendars for next year's Monday Night Bunco! Youth Activities Report HEATHER ANDERSEN It was another great year for Youth Activities for the Ephraim Yacht Club. With the support of volunteer parents, Betsy Steele and Duska Pearson were in charge of the Junior Activities. There were lots of old favorites and some new additions. On Wednesday evenings, our junior members and staff could be found swimming at the YMCA, bowling at The Sister Bay Bowl, goofing off at Penninsula State Park, sailing to Nicolet and creating yet another delicious Goulash Dinner (rumor has it spam was included!). None of the Junior Activities would be possible without the help of parent volunteers!

The Teens… led by me, myself and I (because they are so easy to manage) spent Thursday nights together. Our events included pizza and bowling, barbeques, volleyball at the sand courts on Hwy A, Red-Putter and Joe Joes Pizza, a reincarnation of the ever loved scavenger hunt now called The Amazing Race! Thanks to Captain Duska

Pearson, the Amazing Race had the teams swimming, biking and running through their Ephraim Scavenger Hunt! A good time was had by all! An end of the year celebration at The Andersen’s Echo Island once again drew a large crowd and proved to be a fun adventure. All in all there was good fun and most importantly great friendships made to last a lifetime. Looking forward to lots of fun in 2014.

Junior Activities Report BETSY STEELE AND DUSKA PEARSON Once again the juniors had the opportunity to participate in planned group activities with EYC friends throughout the summer of 2013. Fun was had by all, and it would not have been possible without the help of many volunteer moms and staff. This year the juniors had the opportunity to hike, bike, sail, sing, dance, swim, watch a show, run, tie knots, eat, and play kickball and four square together! The young people of the Yacht Club look forward to a variety of activities Wednesday nights during the summer. Given the number of participants, it must be a highlight. The actual activities are listed below. The number of participants ranged from 15 at the beginning of the season to over 70 for the ever popular dock and field games. These evenings are really a wonderful opportunity for children of a wide age range to spend time together outside of sailing classes, forming friendships for a lifetime.

The EYC Continues To Improve Its Equipment

The EYC maintains a large fleet of sailboats in four classes for member use in racing, lessons and daysailing, plus a fleet of six powerboats for use in teaching lessons, running races and as safety boats. Our fleet is currently 12 Optimists (to be increased to 18 for 2014), 10 Lasers, 9 Flying Scots and eighteen 420s. Our powerboat fleet includes three 13’ Boston Whalers and three RIB inflatables ranging from 13 to 17 feet. For the first time in 2013, our powerboat fleet was equipped entirely with reliable, economical 4-stroke outboard engines. We were fortunate to have Hans Ribbens as our boat repair manager in 2013. Hans is a knowledgable and careful worker whose repairs are always done right and will last a

long time. Other improvements to the fleet in 2013 included:

• Aaron R. Moore RIB. We purchased the Aaron

R. Moore 17’ RIB from Kiwi-McLaughlin. It is a purpose-built coach boat and is perfect as our primary race committee boat.

• Dixsea donation. Jan and Pete Peterson donated the Dixsea, Flying Scot #888, bringing our Flying Scot fleet to 9.

• Scot Free. During the 2012-2013 offseason, EYC volunteer Mike Callahan painted the Scot Free, making it look like new. During the coming offseason, he is painting our Flying Scot McLal’s Single Malt.

• New Whaler motors. We installed two new motors on our two oldest Whalers, replacing 35-year-old two-strokes with more efficient 4-strokes.

420 Fleet. We took delivery of this fleet (originally built in 2005) in late April. It was in excellent condition. We also purchased new dollies and new sails, which were delivered in March and June, respectively. All were paid for out of the funds raised in 2012 for this purpose.

Thanks To 2103 EYC Volunteers The EYC could not exist without thousands of hours of time donated by hundreds of volunteers every year. If, when reading this list of helpers, you get a feeling of deja vu, that’s because there are some EYC members who consistently show up to help, and we thank them in particular for their dedication and generosity.

Thank you to EYC member Paul Jones, who went to bat for the EYC with some high muckety-mucks at the Wisconsin DNR, to help us get a dredging permit. Also, Paul donates labor and landscaping materials and plants through his Land Art landscaping business. The EYC doesn’t have much property to landscape, but Paul makes sure that what we have is well planned and kept pruned, vigorous and updated. Paul also donated to the EYC the use of his electric boat lift for the summer.

Thank you to Suzanne Brennan, who helped set up a meeting with Tina Vanmeer, the new Superintendent of Gibraltar Area Schools. The EYC was happy to let Tina know about the sailing opportunities the EYC offers to Gibraltar students and parents, including sailing lessons and scholarships.

Thank you to Steve and Jessica Sauter of icecreamsource.com, who provided a crew of paid workers to help load the EYC's eight Flying Junior's on the truck to ship them to their new owner. Also thanks to their son Charlie Sauter who helped carry booms and sails to be loaded! Thank you to Steve and Jessica for providing several of their expert icecreamsource.com employees to help the EYC disassemble, pack and ship our eight old Flying Junior dollies. Also thank you to Steve for researching powerboats and helping the EYC find a good deal on our newest safety boat, a Kiwi/McLaughlin 520 with a Honda 50. Thank you to EYC Dock Chair Rich Bierman, who spent scores of hours over the last three years — and especially this spring — designing, sourcing, building, transporting, and installing the EYC’s new floating piers. Rich has taken multiple days off from work to travel to Door County to make sure the piers were correctly fitted and installed. Also thanks to George Kraemer, whose company builds the plastic pier floats, and who found us a bunch of free used floats; to Jo Kahr and the Kahr family, who stored the piers for several years on the Kahr family farm until we were able to install them; to Steve and Jessica Sauter and icecreamsource.com, who provided a gang of strong helpers to move some piers to the EYC; and to all the EYC members who helped build the piers.

Rich Bierman also lent the EYC the services of his company’s expert technology whiz for quite a while so we could get the EYC’s dock cams reconfigured and up and running. Rich’s software experts also wrote a custom online time-clock software program for the EYC which the EYC’s staff have been using to record their time since 2012. Rich also spent dozens of hours designing, sourcing, and installing the EYC’s new “Senior” swim ladder. Rich also took a day off from work on Monday, June 24 to supervise contractors installing the remainder of the EYC's floating piers, together with some additional ladders, to provide safer and easier access to boats for EYC members and juniors. Rich also built a new waterproof plywood dock box for our increased inventory

of 420 sails, and picked up a new plastic dock box and then modified it for our Optimist blades.

Thank you to Cain Goettelman and his company FLS Banners in Sturgeon Bay. FLS provides the EYC with extremely competitive pricing and great service on a variety of items, including custom-embroidered and custom-printed EYC apparel and promotional items, staff uniforms, banners, and sticky decals for boat numbers and sail numbers. FLS and Mad Sails also donated hats to be given to each participant in the Advanced 420 Clinic.

Thank you to Ephraim Yacht Harbor staff Kevin Zito and Brad Heidler, who helped us install our bleachers on the pier and helped lift a heavy outboard motor.

Thank you to Jo Kahr and the Kahr family, who for many years provided outdoor storage on their farm for a number of large pier-related items which the EYC didn’t have room for. We knew those floating piers would be needed eventually!

Marsella also hosted our two visiting coaches during Advanced 420 Clinic, launders the immense amount of cleaning towels we go through each week, and makes sure we have enough gift certificates for the end-of-session student awards ceremonies.

Thank you to Jodi Hoyerman, who excavated a season’s worth of abandoned towels from the EYC’s Lost and Found bin, washed and folded them, and placed them in the clubhouse for their owners to recover. Jody and her husband Rick also hosted the EYC staff for a dinner on Thursday, August 8.

The EYC would be grateful for your donation of boats or equipment (or cash, or appreciated securities). The EYC relies on donations from members and friends to help keep dues low and to keep EYC membership accessible. Because of its educational and amateur athletic mission, the EYC is qualified as a charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and therefore your donation is tax-deductible. Among the items which the EYC would particularly like to receive are: * A used compact pickup truck (Chevy S-10 or Ford Ranger or similar) or similar sized SUV with an automatic transmission. We need a dedicated EYC vehicle for towing and launching boats, and to run errands…for too long we have been depending on EYC volunteers and staff to provide use of their personal vehicles for these tasks. * Flying Scot, Optimist, Laser and Club 420 sailboats, and sails and equipment for them. * Powerboats from 13 to 20 feet; we especially like 13’ Boston Whalers. * Shore stations and similar boat lifts.

Yachting Club of America. YCOA member clubs afford limited reciprocal privileges to each other’s members. Not every yacht club in the U.S. is a YCOA member.

In addition, some yacht clubs which are not YCOA members may afford reciprocal privileges to EYC members upon presentation of an EYC membership card.

To determine whether any particular club is a YCOA member, go to www.ycaol.com. You can access the members-only area of the YCOA website using the User ID and password printed on the back of your EYC membership card.

YCOA member clubs can choose the level of reciprocal benefits afforded to nonmembers. Therefore, your EYC membership does not necessarily afford you every privilege of membership in another YCOA club. Frequently, reciprocal benefits are limited to use of a club’s bar and restaurant (after presenting a credit card), but may also include transient dockage or similar benefits. EYC members are strongly urged to contact the host club well in advance of arrival to learn the terms on which reciprocal privileges are offered.

The EYC does not offer reciprocal billing to EYC members. EYC members must make their own billing and payment arrangements with other YCOA member clubs.

Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation Did you know the EYC is a member of a regional association of yacht clubs, the Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation? LMSRF promotes sail racing competition on Lake Michigan for offshore, youth, and one-design sailors. It also provides racing information through its newsletters, e-mails, and website, as well as educational programs on race management and judging.

You can visit and join LMSRF at www.lmsrf.org. Most EYC members will be eligible to join LMSRF at the Regular Member level ($50), or as an Associate Member ($10) or Junior Member ($10).

A Banner Year For Racing At The EYC The EYC had a very successful racing season in 2013. The weather was good and very few races were cancelled due to weather. Participation was up on an overall basis, with several events and classes (the Optimist Regatta, the 420 class) seeing large increases from previous years. In 2013, for the first time, the Rich Hall Junior Regatta was raced over a 2-day period (Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning) and was raced in two classes (420s and Laser Radials). This was a success, as the number of

participants rose from 8 skippers in 2012 to 18 in 2013 (12 in 420s and 6 in Laser Radials).

The 2013 Ephraim Regatta was well-attended, dropping only from 34 to 27 from 2012 to 2013, although 2012 was also the Midwest District Championships.

We continued to improve race management, with all EYC staffers undergoing race management training for 2013.

REGATTA RESULTS Fyr Bal Regatta. The Fyr Bal Regatta (June 15) was sailed in Flying Scots. Top finishers: 1st Michael and Jennifer Faugust 5 pts 2nd Woody Heidler and Alden Crowe 8 pts 3rd Jay Lott and Sarah Olson 9 pts Family Regatta. The Family Regatta (June 29) was sailed in Flying Scots. Top finishers: 1st Woody Heidler, Erica Heidler & Eric Hoyerman, 4 pts 2nd Roger Waleffe, Fabian Waleffe, Derek Waleffe & Leslie Smith 5 pts 3rd John and Deanna Peterson 9 pts Rich Hall Junior Regatta. The trophy for the top girl in the Laser Radial class was awarded to Sydney Richter. Optimist Regatta. For the Optimist Regatta (20-21 July), we had good light to medium winds and we were able to complete eight races over two days. We were fortunate that we had some visiting sailors from the Pine Lake Yacht Club to bring to total number of racers to sixteen! The top five finishers were: 1st Hansen Zaiser Pine Lake Yacht Club 9 pts 2nd Eric Hoyerman Ephraim Yacht Club 14 pts 3rd Derek Waleffe Ephraim Yacht Club 27 pts 4th Jacob Zaiser Pine Lake Yacht Club 30 pts 5th Sophie Tasker Ephraim Yacht Club 35 pts Sophie Tasker also took home the award for top girl skipper. Women’s Regatta. The EYC's annual Womens' Regatta was sailed in Flying Scots on the evening of Tuesday, July 30. The winning teams were: 1st Nancy Claypool, Annika Pearson and Carrie Berger, 4 points (with four straight bullets) 2nd Ally Dykman, Erica Heidler and Suzy Dykman, 12 points (prevailing in a tiebreaker) 3rd Delaney Dykman, Gretchen Pearson and Sydney Richter, 12 points Ephraim Regatta. The 108th consecutive annual Ephraim Regatta (August 3-4) was a big success. Despite light and lumpy sailing conditions, the race committee managed to complete two races on each day. And

everyone, racers and non-racers alike, had fun at Friday's Regatta Welcome Party and Saturday's Bratfest! Ryan Malmgren and crew Stacy Rieu won the Vail Cup (winner of the first race) and the Charlie Sauter Trophy (winner of the last race). Michael and Jennifer Faugust won the Peder Knudson trophy as the highest placing husband-wife team. The Ephraim Yacht Club is volunteer-managed, and could not exist without the thousands of hours of volunteer time donated every year by its members. As the EYC grows, it’s important to spread the volunteer load so that no one person is required to carry too much of it. The EYC is constantly seeking the right volunteer for the right position. Some of the EYC’s available volunteer positions are described at www.eyc.org/volunteer. However, this is by no means a comprehensive list. Volunteer positions are available for persons of all skills and regardless of how much or how little time you are able to give. If you would like to volunteer to help the EYC, either in one of the positions listed, or in some other capacity, please contact commodore@eyc.org.
